Boss Mustang: It's coming.

http://www.mustangheaven.com/2010/ma...ang/#more-1959

Its been no secret the resurrection of the BOSS nameplate has been rumored for quite somtime and although Ford Racing brought back the BOSS 302R as a race ready Mustang many enthusiasts have been salivating for the real deal.

We may have come one step closer as Mark Fields, President of the Americas for Ford Motor Company recently hinted about the return of the legendary BOSS nameplate during a Ford 2010 Dealer Show as he was quoted as saying,

“We did the Bullitt, we did a Mach 1, we did the C/S. I can’t tell you what the next special edition Mustang will be, but I can give you a hint.”

After his words a 1970 Boss 302 drove across the stage and fields said “Is that a subtle enough hint?”

These are the rumors:

-450-470 hp 5.0L.
-Weight reduction.
-Emphasis on handling and braking.
-Priced between GT and GT500.

The '12 Boss's natural competitor would of course be the Z/28. Unfortunately the Z/28 has it's sights squarely on the 2005 GT500.

Don't know. I've heard intake and exhaust revisions are a sure thing though.

I've read 437 HP. If accurate, likely just better-flowing exhaust, different tune, perhaps a better air intake.

BTW....the Boss is the worst-kept Mustang secret ever (perhaps on purpose....).

Perhaps a higher redline, too? More revs, more power.

Cool, way to go Ford.

-450-470 hp
-Weight reduction.
-Emphasis on handling and braking.
-Priced between GT and GT500.

Why can't GM do this. We don't need a supercharged behemoth Z28. The Z28 needs to be a tossable fun to drive car, not a flippin 600HP ocean liner on wheels. I hope GM does the right thing.

I agree, of course. I just can't see how this gen car would respond directly to a Boss Mustang. I don't know if GM will end up substantially revising the LSA Z/28 already developed and waiting on the shelf - but from what I've heard, "tossable" is definitely something you shouldn't expect from it (and I'm being diplomatic ).

Maybe the Boss Mustang will inspire a 6th gen Z/28.

Thats the rumor.......along with a very close ratio 6 speed manual. Also a price of 39k.

What we really need is domestic pony cars to explode in sales and for a dedicated racing series to start up. Trickle down tech would be bada$$.

I doubt i it unless it has forced induction. Ford themselves have said they see no significant benefit from DI on the new 5.0L unless it has a supercharger or turbo.

Although I agree with some of what is said, let's say you did make the Z28 with a hotter NA motor and an "emphasis on weight reduction." What sort of price segment would that car fall into and realistically how much weight can you take out of the 5th Gen for that price?
