Cool 6th Gen Camaro to be built in Lansing, MI.

Looks like the Camaro is moving back to the U.S. from Canada for production starting with the 6th Gen. Discuss.

Great news. Gives Mustang lovers one less talking point.

Welcome home, Camaro.

The 6th gen Camaro is being made in Lansing due to a comprehensive business case based on supply as well as cost efficiency. In short, Camaro and it's supply network will be consolidated with other RWD GM vehicles (ie: Cadillac and other upcoming vehicles).

Think of it as the old Zeta RWD plan with Oshawa, only with Alpha.

Yeah...there's actually, you know, more than one product going on Alpha.

Read some coverage of this news including comments from CAW President Ken Lewenza who is understandably not happy with losing Camaro but who has gone a bit overboard, calling GM's decision "callous", "poorly thought-out" (as if consolidating RWD vehicles under one roof is not a no-brainer?), and "an insult to Canadians whose tax dollars kept the company afloat" (oh, not to mention the US tax dollars?)

I know XTS is built there, new Impala will go there as well, right? Those two cars will have even higher volume than Camaro so I don't think the CAW has to be so angry.

Anytime you take jobs away from one country and give it to another, someone is going to be pissed off.

Well the ATS and the upcoming CTS will use a lot of the same component sets as well as basic platform, and will all be built in the same plant.

GMs going to honor their commitments to the CAW, but they got to realize that their last confrontational negotiations with GM (and all US based car makers) didn't help them.

Add to that the current UAW agreements and the fact that the Canadian dollar is on par with the US means it's cheaper to simply build automobiles in the US than in Canada in addition to a less confrontational union.

Great news for Camaro, Michigan and GM.

My only question is why announce this now? This press release feels like GM is again taking the Camaro away from CAW like they did with the F-body.

Why not wait and announce that a XYZ model is going to Oshawa and the Camaro going to Lansing. Why anger CAW if they don't have to?

I won't have to go very far for BBOMG 12 then

There is still a lot of open space (huge parking lots) from the days when we had the Oldsmobile plants here.

Merry Christmas to Michigan and I am sure GM will produce another fine product in Canada. It would behove GM and the Canadian union workers to work together to keep that wonderful plant alive.

I beleive the workers at the present plant deserve a lot of credit for their enthusiasm .....

I haven't been to bbomg but every year I listen to the podcast and read on the forums the great times in the past.....give these guys a thumbs up...help a brother out....these guys at the plant have always gone the extra mile...

I'm sure they are sweating it. They love the camaro and even as they get another vehicle...I bet it pains them to lose the 6th gen...

Big holiday shout out to the guys who put passion into every 5th gen built
