MSN says new camaro late 2015, weight loss
Check the article out here:

To quote from the article:
I think some of this has been mentioned before in here, although batted around a bit loosely. It's nice to see this mentioned in such an article as it shows there is [probably] some sort of truth to it.
I love the new Camaro. However, the fact is it is a bit of a pig. It needs to lose at least 200 lbs..

To quote from the article:
Camaro: For the 2013 model year, GM is adding Chevy's MyLink infotainment system to most trim levels. It's also rolling out a 1LE performance model for Camaro SS coupes.
A Camaro redesign is expected by late 2015 for the 2016 model year. GM plans to take substantial weight out of the car by moving it to the Alpha rwd platform.

I quite frankly have no idea what cars are using this platform. After doing some quick research, it appears this platform is so new there is currently only one car using it, the new Cadillac ATS.
Here is a Wikipedia article about the platform:
GM Alpha platform - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Not a bad read. The article says in part:
The timing of this article is off as the 6th gen Camaro isn't comming out in 2013. Still, this is interesting stuff.
The article states this platform can handle anything from 4-cyl all the way up to V8's with AWD being possible. One thing that strikes me though is it appears this platform looks like it was meant for smaller sedans. How about a Malibu sized Camaro, everyone?

Motor Trend has reported GM will start selling Alpha platform based vehicles in 2013, which will include the new Cadillac ATS, the third generation Cadillac CTS, and the 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro. The platform is expected to be smaller, lighter and less costly than the current Zeta platform it is replacing.

Re: MSN says new camaro late 2015, weight loss
Rumors have been for a 6th gen Camaro for 2016 MY. That could mean early, mid or late 2015. Earlier the better because the new Mustang will be out in 2014.
Weight loss is a must for many reasons from the 5th Gen. I just hope that Alpha is designed well enough to meet all the Camaro performance criteria and save some weight from the 5th Gen to match the new Mustang's already lower weight and expected further lightening.

Re: MSN says new camaro late 2015, weight loss
This is a good thing, obviously. In the meantime, I am enjoying my 2013 Mustang GT. I like how the 5th gen looks, but there were just too many downsides. Anyway, my loyalty lies with whatever manufacturer produces the most car for the buck. The car has to be visually appealing of course, inside and out. This only goes for American manufacturers. I doubt I would ever buy an import unless I become a millionaire. Porsche screams my name in that case!

I think we'll learn a lot more about what a Alpha's performance capabilities are once the ATS-V comes to market.
But it looks like anything Alpha based is a step in the right direction for GM RWD future dimensionally and dynamiclly.
