* * * Convertible Production starts on 1/10/2011 - Ordering Advice * * *
The 21st century rebirth of the Chevrolet Camaro opens a new chapter when the 2011 Camaro Convertible premieres at the Los Angeles International Auto Show on November 17.
The Camaro Convertible will arrive in Chevrolet showrooms in February 2011. Starting price will be $30,000, including $850 destination. (Full details will be released later this year.)
“The Convertible will make the all-new Camaro, already a smash-hit, even more desirable to a greater range of drivers,” says Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.
The Convertible model will be available in the same basic model offering as the Camaro Coupe. The standard model will have a 312-hp Direct Injection V6 engine featuring 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The SS model will feature the 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 426 hp. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.
Camaro is America’s most popular sports car, seizing leadership in U.S. sales with the original coupe model that launched in spring of 2009 as a 2010 model. The right to purchase one of the first Convertibles was recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction for $205,000, with all proceeds donated to charity.
Lets recap how this all works:
Estimated Production Guide Number
The first dealer consensus cycle for Camaro Convertible will occur in early November. Prior to the consensus, an estimated production guide number for the 2011 model run will be calculated for each dealer. The production guide number will be available for individual dealers to review. This will be available soon!
What does this mean to you? Same as the coupe production. ALL Dealers will have a "guide number". If a dealer sells OVER that guide number, the odds are it will not get built. You will be waiting...........and waiting..........and waiting............ Just like many did with the coupe.
Be sure you know WHERE YOU ARE IN LINE when placing a deposit. And I personally would ask to SEE proof of that guide number! Or you will be waiting...........and waiting..........and waiting............ And there again will be dealers taking as many as they can get. Some will deliver, others will not.
Dealers that sell lots of coupes, will likely get more convertible allocation.....
And you do not want to be waiting.....for this:

I have 8 deposits....so I would guess other dealers would have lists started. So YES!
As a follow up to some other info on the convertible:
ON GLEE - NOT a production convertible, and NOT a GM painted color (it was a conversion)
Regarding convertible options: NO LS, only 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS
NO SYNERGY GREEN CONVERTIBLES
It APPEARS the convertible top adds about $5000 to the standard coupe price.
TOP COLORS - Black and TAN
There are pics are "unconfirmed" changes, including larger side mirrors, and different tail lamps (including my Oshawa video)
Original production was estimated at 20,000 - but I was told this number is in the 30,000 range.
Dealers will get MUCH MUCH more information on November 15th.
