I thought I read somewhere that the highest limiter on a camaro was 155. V6's with base tires were lower (118-130?).

Dont take this as gospel, maybe someone else will chime in.

I was thinking the base tire V6 was limited somewhere in the "one-teens" and the 20" tire V6 was limited to 155mph. The V8 runs ***** out.

Speedo goes up to 300 km/h but we all know that a governor will ruin our fun.

I don't know if it'll have the same ~165 mph limiter as the 4th-gen or not . Regardless, it'll be limited by power, weight, and wind resistance around ~170 mph anyways. Even the lighter, more aerodynamic Corvettes (base) aren't rated for much more than that . IIRC, they used to be rated for ~176 mph?

119 for V6, 155 for V8

Speed limiters are set for tire speed ratings. You do not want to go faster than the tires are rated for.

did you know the bugatti veyron has tires rated for a lower speed than the car can actually go? the tires will melt within 8 minutes of going full speed! crazy.

Thos are the numbers I have seen. Although they may not correspond to the speed ratings of the tires. I expect the SS will have W or Y rated tires, neither of which is limited to 155. And the V6 will probably come with H rated tires, which can go 130 (or 135, I forget which).

I'll be interested to see if there are any other physical limitations on speed. for example, on a 4th gen LS1, the aluminum driveshaft's critical speed was 160 mph, so it got a 160mph speed limiter. There was at least one other driveshaft offered during the 4th gen run that had a lower critical speed, and cars equipped with it got a lower speed limiter (and lower speed rated tires) to match.

If they say 155, then they probably mean it. My CTS is governed to 155 as well.

My 05 Mustang was limited to 145!!

I have yet to see a top speed run with the limiter off. With the limiter in place one of the now many review mags claimed it topped out at 155 (limited) in 4th gear. There is still a whole performance gear to go. I would say 170 should be more than doable limiter lifted.

155 in 4th gear? that doesnt make any sense. i would think 170 is do-able. especially since there are 2 gears left.

Base Vette (C6) will do 186 mph.

Actually, I'm thinking that has been the case since the C6 came out, with the LS2. It may have crept up a bit with the 436 hp LS3 (not sure if the car was redline limited or drag limited).

No way the larger, less aero-efficient 5th gen will touch that though, speed limiter or not.

Not that I give much of a crap about top speed ratings.

Since 5th and 6th are both overdrives (.84 and .57), I'd guess that top speed is probably attained in 4th.
