I agree. The SS and Z/28 were each "top dog" of their own game. SS(traight line), Z/28(up the road course).

The first rule of the winkie club is never to admit you're a member of the winkie club, lest the black Suburbans pay you a visit.

Actually the SS was replaced by the Type LT in the second generation (1974?) and the Z/28 was top dog over the Type LT.

Why not talk about something else wrong with this thread? The Z/28 (or Z28 if you prefer ) won't be available until MY 2011 based upon the same rumor source that said that it would also be top dog.

That's something I'm very curious of as well . I thought I remembered hearing awhile back that GM plans to come to market with guns a blazing? (ie: bringing out the "top dog" right off the bat). Or maybe that was just more speculation?!

I wish we had "somebody in the know" around here, 'cause clearly, it isn't me!!!

I think the Z28 should have the LS7 and not blower and have 500hp. Then a COPO with the ZR1 motor with blower "detuned" to 600ish hp. But that's just my two cents.

My understanding has always been that Z28 would be "about 18 months behind the initial launch"...

Mid February 2009 - 2010 Camaro coupe launches
December 2009 - 2010 Camaro convertible hits showrooms
Mid August(ish) 2010 - 2011MY Camaros launch which includes Z28.

At least that is how I have been interpretting all the rumors.

To me the "guns a blazing" is that the Camaro SS won't be delayed 6 months behind the base Camaro (or vice versa).

The only thing I'm not sure about at this time is whether or not Z28 will also be available as a convertible.

You really think they'll start selling the convertible in DECEMBER? I give it 6 months after the coupe hits production.

Have we been told when the official launch date it?

I don't think GM would launch a convertible in December. That would be financial sucide. It better be no later than July.

From a well placed source the convertible will be released on December 6th 2009. Just in time for vacation season down south.

Belive it or not, in some parts of the country, December IS convertible season. At the start of production, it makes sense to start off slow, and only have to make enough for the southern part of the country, then when production picks up, it's springtime up north. Works for me.
