3860 lbs. for the manual SS...

maybe that would be a good question to ask?

3860 is great. With 422hp it should be a solid 12 second car if it doesn't have the same axle hop problem as the GTO did.
Yeah I don't believe the weight # either. The current car is 3540-3590 for a manual depending on options. Just putting a DOHC mod motor and a 6 speed Tremec in it will bring it up to 3700 easy. Then what if they add bigger brakes, 20" wheels and an IRS on top of that to keep up with the competition? It will be a pig just like everything else unless they switch platforms and make it 3/4 of the size it is now.

Interior is STUNNING. Exterior styling is outstanding. Features are off the chart. I've owned an F-body my entire life...But.
There is a reason I did not order a GT500. Because it weighed 3,900 pounds. You can give a dump truck 100,000hp, but it still won't be any fun to drive! Well, at least the GT500 has 500hp....Now, I am supposed to be happy to buy a Camaro that is ALSO 3,900 pounds, but it has 100 to 75 fewer hp.
The bad thing about weight is, it kills EVERYTHING. The car does not want to turn because the mass wants to continue in the original direction. It does not want to stop. It is a LOT harder on parts to get going when launching. It just sucks.
So....Are the seat frames made of lead? Seriously, I know the extra airbags add weight, but what the hell was put in this car to make it gain over 400 pounds from the already overweight 4th gens?
Like a woman, she can be really pretty, but if she is a pig, I aint marrying her. This new Camaro is really pretty, but damn......

My take is that cars are heavier these days. It doesn't sound as though you're generally aware of how much modern cars weigh. A Corolla weighs almost 3000 pounds these days.
Inevitably someone brings up the Corvette. It's very light, and shows what can be done with enough budget, and a philosophy of weight reduction from the very beginning of the platform design (when was the last time you heard anything about how many stars a Corvette gets for a crash rating -- nobody cares). People who feel as you do should be really happy in one of those.
If you are happy with 300 or so HP and a live rear axle, you'll probably want to buy a Mustang.
If you want a 2010 model Anything with 400+hp/400+tq four seater with IRS, you have to get used to 3800+ pounds, I'm afraid.

That's not bad, considering some of the figures that were being tossed around before.
I'm planning on removing some unnecessary items (backseat, etc.), and replacing other parts (hood, etc.) with lighter weight aftermarket parts. I'd expect the weight of the car to dip into the 3700 lb. range, and possibly even into the high 3600 lb. range, depending on what's modified.

3860 lb. is extremely depressing.
They shoulda taken the time to develop the Kappa platform such that it could have been the basis for Camaro.
Building sporty coupes out of giant, hulking, heavy 4-door luxury sedan platforms has been the trend of late, but it ain't workin' for me

I'm not being a dick, but I'd like to know the cars everyone has owned that were low weight and high horsepower from the factory?
Has the dream of a "normal guys" car with power and light weight ever existed?
I'm not starting a fight, just every "light weight" car I've ever owned was low horsepower from the factory. Is it even reasonable to expect light weight and high horsepower in a nonexotic car?
Everyone wanting lighter weight should check out the Solstice GXP and crank up the turbo!!

Lightest car I owned was 2895lbs with an AWD drivetrain BTW.
Lightest fbody I've owned, we'll I am not realy sure. Probably the 3rdgen.
I will get them on the scale again one day I promise.

That being said, a 3500-3600 lbs. 2+2 car with 400hp shouldn't be impossible.
That's actually starting to look like a reasonable option. Or, alternately, an LSX swap into one.
