that was somewhat right. The L76 used the same heads but the valves weren't hollow like on the LS3, which added weight. That would suck for the L99 owners if GM cut corners and the valves on those heads too weren't the sodium filled valves. That could be a big issue for valve train stability when changeing out the cam to something more aggressive.

maybe that would be a good question to ask?

Well with that kind of weight, I wont be buying one. I want to autox any car I own and this car will be a pig on an autox course. My 4th gen will run circles around this bohemoth.

Yeah I don't believe the weight # either. The current car is 3540-3590 for a manual depending on options. Just putting a DOHC mod motor and a 6 speed Tremec in it will bring it up to 3700 easy. Then what if they add bigger brakes, 20" wheels and an IRS on top of that to keep up with the competition? It will be a pig just like everything else unless they switch platforms and make it 3/4 of the size it is now.
Just because GM couldn't pull it off don't automatically assume that Ford can't. I'll put 20 down on Ford releasing a 400+ HP beast under 3600 pounds.

Good luck finding a lighter hood ... there's a reason they only need one strut to support the stock one.

A lot .. because you'd have to lose the brakes too!

I believe they said the lower redline has to do with the AFM lifters.

Yeah I bet they will make another 3600lb 400hp car one day. Just won't be on the S197 platform.

Interior is STUNNING. Exterior styling is outstanding. Features are off the chart. I've owned an F-body my entire life...But.

There is a reason I did not order a GT500. Because it weighed 3,900 pounds. You can give a dump truck 100,000hp, but it still won't be any fun to drive! Well, at least the GT500 has 500hp....Now, I am supposed to be happy to buy a Camaro that is ALSO 3,900 pounds, but it has 100 to 75 fewer hp.

The bad thing about weight is, it kills EVERYTHING. The car does not want to turn because the mass wants to continue in the original direction. It does not want to stop. It is a LOT harder on parts to get going when launching. It just sucks.

So....Are the seat frames made of lead? Seriously, I know the extra airbags add weight, but what the hell was put in this car to make it gain over 400 pounds from the already overweight 4th gens?

Like a woman, she can be really pretty, but if she is a pig, I aint marrying her. This new Camaro is really pretty, but damn......

The topic has been beat to death in the numerous weight threads.

My take is that cars are heavier these days. It doesn't sound as though you're generally aware of how much modern cars weigh. A Corolla weighs almost 3000 pounds these days.

Inevitably someone brings up the Corvette. It's very light, and shows what can be done with enough budget, and a philosophy of weight reduction from the very beginning of the platform design (when was the last time you heard anything about how many stars a Corvette gets for a crash rating -- nobody cares). People who feel as you do should be really happy in one of those.

If you are happy with 300 or so HP and a live rear axle, you'll probably want to buy a Mustang.

If you want a 2010 model Anything with 400+hp/400+tq four seater with IRS, you have to get used to 3800+ pounds, I'm afraid.

I'm planning on removing some unnecessary items (backseat, etc.), and replacing other parts (hood, etc.) with lighter weight aftermarket parts. I'd expect the weight of the car to dip into the 3700 lb. range, and possibly even into the high 3600 lb. range, depending on what's modified.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!go buy some balsa wood for your floors too.

3860 lb. is extremely depressing.
They shoulda taken the time to develop the Kappa platform such that it could have been the basis for Camaro.
Building sporty coupes out of giant, hulking, heavy 4-door luxury sedan platforms has been the trend of late, but it ain't workin' for me

I'm not being a dick, but I'd like to know the cars everyone has owned that were low weight and high horsepower from the factory?
Has the dream of a "normal guys" car with power and light weight ever existed?
I'm not starting a fight, just every "light weight" car I've ever owned was low horsepower from the factory. Is it even reasonable to expect light weight and high horsepower in a nonexotic car?
Everyone wanting lighter weight should check out the Solstice GXP and crank up the turbo!!

I don't think anyone is really complaining about the HP. We know enough about these motors to mod them and know what they can do.
Lightest car I owned was 2895lbs with an AWD drivetrain BTW.
Lightest fbody I've owned, we'll I am not realy sure. Probably the 3rdgen.
I will get them on the scale again one day I promise.

If you define "light weight" and "high horsepower" as right around 3000-3100 lbs. and over 400hp, then you're looking at a Corvette at that point.

That being said, a 3500-3600 lbs. 2+2 car with 400hp shouldn't be impossible.

That's actually starting to look like a reasonable option. Or, alternately, an LSX swap into one.
