Some classified military information programs have off-the-wall code words associated with them as well- we always wonder who sits around smoking some funny herb to come up with some of the names used!

Nobody does, as far as I know. A computer picks dictionary words at random. Hence "Have Blue" for the F117

 

Example, instead of Operation: Iraqi Freedom, it should have been Operation: Who's your Baghdaddy

 

Those kind of names are carefully chosen by people that have to market it, unlike the secret projects

 

It's a lot older than that. Names are given to programs way before they ever reach the approval stage.

 

well.......at one point when we started working on something, the name "Paragon" was initially used........only by a few people. (it was an 'advanced study')

Then I suggested "Panther"........and that name was assigned. (I was quite certain that many didn't get the name....) That program, however, was shelved for quite sometime......

Then.....GMX-284.............then "CZ6" or "Chevy RWD" was the code used right up until late 2005.....as we didn't want to use the 'Camaro' name until the last possible moment.

 

I should add that it is no longer the GMX-284.

 

But are they still calling the Special Edition 500+hp Z/28..."Doug's car"??

That is the one that I was thinking of in my first post.

 

No. Panther was to be the Camaro's name until managment decided all Chevy's should start with a C. Monte Calo some how got around that one didn't it?

 

Since it's basically production ready (and hardly any changes)

just call it the camaro concept

for the other cars, example the BANSHEE, etc. they looked radically different from the production firebird... therefore it needed a snazzy name

The camaro concept is the Camaro.... so.. yeah.

 

Oh man i really like the sound of "panther". It may just be the 19 year old college kid in me but i think it would do some good to have a "panther" trim that you could purchase from the factory. Ya know, perhaps a certain paint, some stripes, maybe some interior accents. The recent Dodge Rumblebee ram truck is a good example of how popular special editions are (if there affordable)

 

my understand was that it was the code word for the 67 Camaro.
