Actually I saw a red Monte Carlo in Eureka this weekend with DEI stripes down the sides and a #8 on the C-pillar.

Yikes I hope not! Nothing against Nascar but keep the Monte in there, it at least has history there.

I hope that when the new Camaro comes back, GM will actually put it with factory backing into a GT racing series or multiple series. Look what the C6-R's did with factory backing. They kicked ***. Now imagine what a factory backed race prepped Z/28 could do!

Re: 5TH GEN life cycle

I think the Camaro Concept answers this question just by looking at it. Ford and Chrysler wont have a problem because GM came up with the obvious answer. If Rick Wagoner hadnt steped in and stopped the origional concept that was more like the 69, the one we are looking at now could have become the 6th Gen. Now the next after this should be an evoloution of the 5th, not a major redesign. Maintaining the spirit rather than have the huge differences in Gens as in the past. I think the right way to do it would be the way BMW evolved from the 80's till now. Yes they made major advances in engineering since then, but still have the same basic design. The design has just been tweaked and improved. The BMW signature 4 front headlight kidney bean grille coupe remains the same. And to people who say we need to throw out the design because people get tired of it look at porsche. They havent had a major redesign since WWII. You see a gradual evoloution since James Deans "Little Bastard" Even Lamborghini did a Retro Miura concept, not for lack of new ideas. Look at Countach to Diablo to Murcielago and Gallardo. Its not just high end vehicles. When has Mini ever had a major redesign. Even when BMW took over it maintained its look. You take your best designs and you improve on them. To me its that simple yet very few companies get it.

Some of the best runs were in threes in Chevrolet history.
A few off the top of my head....

'55-56-57 Chevy
'67-68-69 Camaro
'94-95-96 Impala SS

I think you are on to something. If you have a great, classic design, evolve it, don't completely change with each new generation. Good points on BMW and porsche. I have had the same thoughts. The concept certainly qualifies as one of the all time classics to me! I'd like to see it around for a LOOONG time with tasteful updates.

It has to be actually built first.
