5th Gen Must Have...

And they have to make that seat return to the position it was in before the back got flipped forward to let someone or put something in the back seat. Still can't believe our rental Monte didn't have that.

Not a must have but a "Scott, sure would be nice HINT HINT" item:
Bring back the "Shift!" dash light in the gauge cluster....tie it in to the PCM so that once the aftermarket guys hack the tune we can set the shift light rpm to preference.

Re: 5th Gen Must Have...
On manual transmission cars, the clutch takeup should span more than 1/2" of the pedal travel. 2-3" would be fine. My brother has a 2001 Civic EX, and the clutch takeup is about 6" of pedal travel -- that's too much.
Hydraulic rack and pinion steering, across the board, all models. (I hope this was a given, but after driving a Cobalt LS with the electric steering, I am a little worried).
Excellent seats with good bolstering. +1 on the integrated seatbelts, and +10000000 on having the seat return to its original position after you flip it forward to climb in the back seat.

I can't stand a mushy clutchy pedal-- though an instant-grabber sucks equally (or even more-so)
