I wonder what GM/his insurance will do (if anything) for him.

 

GM has done all they can at this point (they released a statement). It will be up to his insurance to fix it. HOWEVER, most insurance companies explicitly exclude "tracks" as part of their coverage.

He could "lie" and say it happened when he was turning on a road (which would be insurance fraud), but if the Insurance company ever finds the (now popular) video, he will be in a bit hot water.

how bad does it screw up the car when they deploy? would he be able to just not have them replaced?

 

Curious as well....I know those airbags can get very pricey on some cars.

 

i cant think of any reason why a side impact would be detected and cause them to explodes.

It still seems to be a flawed calculation on GMs part.

I would hate to be in a situation where I need to make an emergency maneuver on the road, only to have the airbags go off half way through, blocking my vision.

the cost of a new car hasnt just gone up, the replacement for the safety features, regular maintenance, and fuel charge has as well.

... random thought i had when comparing 02 to 2010-12.

its still bs that they delpoyed. they went off when there wa sno danger, unless the Camaro weighs so much that actually could pull all that massive ***-end over itself.

 

Man the age old question? Can I just have a stripper? No not a chick who takes it off for money. And I don't mean "body in white" either. Body, basic drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes. A nice interior with no BS airbags or things I don't need. Hell I don't even need some fancy radio. If I could get a brutal animal of a stripper say ZL1 or something. Heater a/c delete. Man how fun that car would be.

 

I don't think a car company can legally do that anymore. Hell, since 2010 (ish) they've been REQUIRED to put tire pressure monitoring systems in the car. I'm sure the same has to do with these bull**** side curtain airbags. My Genesis Coupe has 6 airbags (that I know of)

 

They are also required to have undefeatable ESP.
