5th Gen vs. 1st Gen stats. . .

I posted this on the Facebook page and under the podcast thread but this seems to be where most of the discussions happen. I made a typo on the SS350. It should be 350 cubic inches not 305.

Here are the specs for the 2012-2013 Camaro V6 with more horsepower. . .

0-60: 5.8 sec (MT) 0-60: 6.2 sec (AT) 1/4 mile: 14.2 sec
Engine: V6 - 3.6 L DOHC 16 valve
HP: 323 hp @ 6800 rpm
Torque: 278 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
RWD
6-Speed MT / 6-Speed AT
Fuel Economy: (MT) 17/28 / (AT) 19/30 mpg

Enjoy!

FYI - Horsepower and torque were measured differently in the 1960s. It is also a well known fact the HP numbers on the original Z/28 were grossly underrated.

Very true JG. During the 1960s, horsepower and torque were measured at the flywheel without any losses due to power steering pumps, etc (gross horsepower). Today, engines are tested with loads from pumps, etc. (net horsepower). If the first gen motors were tested today, their horse power and torque figures would be even less.

Interesting indeed.

More than anything, OP's table shows how far cars and especially tires have come since about 45 years ago. Who back then would have thought for even a second that some day the dragstrip performance of the then-current Z/28 and even the SS396 version would be bettered by a heavier Camaro powered by only 6 cylinders?
