Any MY 2014 Camaro news?

With it now confirmed that the 2014 Corvette and Silverado/Sierra twins will all be getting versions of the Gen V DI V8, what are the chances that Camaro gets one next year?

I would think likely! Look at the previous patterns.

Re: Any MY 2014 Camaro news?

If the new GM engine to Corvette then to Camaro pattern continues. 2015 would be the year the LT1 comes to Camaro. That may be the last year of the 5th Gen.

Does GM spend money to certify the LT1 in the 5th Gen for one model year or wait for a full introduction in the 6th Gen?

Is the LT1 fuel efficient enough te replace the LS3 and L99?

Is it worth continued manufacturing of the LS3 for the Camaro?

Would be a way for GM to help boost Camaro sales during the final 5th Gen model years. Might help steal a little thunder from the next gen Mustang release.

That's the million dollar question.

Re: Any MY 2014 Camaro news?

Why would GM wait until MY 2015 when the 2014 Corvette, Silverado, Sierra (and quite possibly SS) are all getting LT1s or variations thereof? It would seem like a no brainer to get people that have been holding of to purchase a new V8 Camaro before the next generation ships.

Additionally, since Camaro is moving to Alpha+, who's to say that the 6th gen is not getting a smaller V8, if it gets one at all?

Re: Any MY 2014 Camaro news?

I would think that the Silverado, Sierra, Corvette, etc. have a few more years left in their lifecycyle, which will justify the validation of putting a new engine in it. However, if the Camaro has only two years (guessing) left until the 6th gen...

Like the long rumored 5.5L???

I don't think there is any question the 6th Gen Camaro gets a V8. Thought I read one one of the sites that the LT1 will fit into an Alpha.

The LT1 is the performance Gen V small block V8 and it will be used in performance applications, Vette, Camaro and SS. And like the Gen IV's there will be a few variants probably for the Z models; ZL1, Z28, Z06, ZR1 etc...

Getting production up an running. Corvette (new), Trucks (new), SS (new), and Camaro(old).. If there are only X engines available, what models have the most pull for the new engine? Corvette gets it just because, trucks will need about 500,000 of them, SS is small production. Camaro has something like a 2/3rds V8 take rate. Figure 45,000 - 60,000. That number would cover both Corvette and SS most likely. Leaving Camaro out in the cold. That and recertification costs with a new model a year away probably ends Camaro's chances.

I think the notion that more power alone boosts sales was pretty savagely killed with the 1998 when GM put the more powerful LS1 in the 5 year old Camaro.

If there is an incentive enough for GM to put the LT1 in the 5th gen, then they will. Does it boost fuel economy significantly enough? Is it worth the cost? Is there going to be enough return on investment?

If the current Camaro is going to be around just 1 year, then there's likely no way you'll see the engine. If the 6th gen Camaro was Zeta based, then that wouldn't be a big deal. But with Camaro moving to an entirely different platform, I wouldn't hold my breath expecting the LT1 in this generation Camaro... with one exception: a specialty model where they can charge enough to make it worthwhile.

It certainly isn't like there's never been a precedent for it. Perfect example: The 1992 Corvette got the new LT1 (errr, the Gen II one - ha) but the last model year 3rd Gen didn't get it - it didn't show up in the F-body until the debut of the 4th Gen in 1993. C5 debuted with the LS1 in 1997, F-body didn't get it until 1998.

There always seems to be a one model year lag between Corvette's good new stuff and the Camaro trickle down.

It could be said that the LS3 in the 2010 Camaro was actually in MY 2009 and that was again 1 year after the LS3 debut in the '08 Vette.

Although the GTO and the C6 both had the LS2 in 2005.
