Anyone care about the radio?

Anyone care about the radio?
Performance, looks what about tunes guys?
Personally I'll be getting the base radio and getting the real stuff. But how about a little upfront engineering to impress the kids.
4" double-din dash opening = compatable with the coolest headunits.
Run a channel over the driveshaft hump from the firewall to the trunk. 1" by .5" square tubing. No more gutting the car to run wires. No more busted tabs, panels or screws.
1 extra grommit in the firewall or put the battery in the trunk. I dont want to drill a hole in my baby.
6.5" speaker openings with removable grills = best sounding speaker options.
Any other thoughts.

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
my concern along these lines is look at the interior photos that we have seen. it doesnt look at all like anything that is a standard din radio. it looks like more of an integrated type radio- maybe its just me but i plan on aftermarket everything right off the bat but thats my opinion....

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
I'm not really into aftermarket stereos. If everyone else is, then I'd like GM to do it, just so the Camaro will be #1(as if that's a problem...).
As long as the stereo in the 5th gen is better than that of the 4th gen I'll be good.

The stereo isn't a deal breaker. I was completely satisfied with the Monsoon system in my '02. Anything along those lines works for me as long as it has a jack for the MP3 Player...

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
All I care about for the radio is that they don't put 300 different vehicle controls into it which would make it impossible to replace. I've never had a vehicle retain the stock audio system, and I don't expect that to change with the Camaro. If they make it such a major pain in the *** that I've got to relocate the OEM radio to the trunk and run all new wiring for the new radio, I won't be happy. If they pull something even dumber like integrating necessary information into the display that makes it necessary for me to retain the radio in the stock location, it could be a potential deal breaker for me. People can say what they want about the importance of good tunes, but on a daily driven car, I need much better quality than anything GM is going to give me.

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
there is a good side to having the stock headunit be totally integrated though. point being- it looks factory and is less likely to get jacked. i look at it this way- if i want upgraded audio and possibly video- ill get a jl cleansweep and use that to run amps and then run the standalone dvd player through the aux on that, all while maintaining a clean, factory look

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
That's always a possibility, and may wind up being a necessity, but I still prefer the flexibility that I get with an aftermarket head unit, especially if I want to incorporate DVD, SACD, or whatever emerging high-definition audio format may be gaining popularity by then.

As for keeping the radio stock looking, one set of inputs and one set of outputs would be awsome on the stock radio.
When the Cd in my truck died, I went to the junk yard to get a replacement.
Lol, the guy said he had one but they all go to junk sooner than later. When I asked how much, he wanted $250 for it!!! I laughed and bought an Alpine for the same price. No problems since and sounds twice as nice.

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
thats my biggest concern is having a unit that nothing else can connect to. all the headunits ive ever had had no aux inputs and sure as hell no outputs. i just dont want a headunit where they say- thats it, heres what it does, there are no ports to hook anything else, deal with it. i am hoping it wont be like that.

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
Ive heard some cars like VW if you replace the the radio it will throw codes through the computer because they are related somehow. Is this the case with GM?

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
kinda if i understand you, like my impala the radio controls like door chimes, oil change stuff, tire pressure gauge and stuff like that. you can get a gmco module to bypass that and what that does is sends an "all clear" signal to the computer so the aftermarket stereo doesnt affect anything.
hope that helps...

Re: Anyone care about the radio?
nope ill keep the stock radio. if the radio works and it plays cds im happy, it would be nice to have an input jack. i cant stand the look of aftermarket steros in 4th generations.
