from that angle, it looks like just the front end of the car. is the back half missing?

Actually I believe they simply moved it to the rear deck just above the trunk lid.

Are they really going to put the shark fin on the trunk?
Is there no other antenna design that would work?

How about a power antenna in the rear quarter for the AM/FM and the flat little cube glued to the trunk lid (that the Solstice/Sky use) for satellite?
