I thought they came up with the name then verified that it did not mean anything stange in any language. I never heard they chose it for its meaning in French. That would be a weird name for a car they wanted to have a aggressive image.

It's well documented that GM took it from an old archaic French-to-English dictionary. Some sources claim it means "companion" others say "friend or comrade".

Chevy also considered using the letters “GM” in the name, and came up with G-Mini, which evolved into GeMini, and finally Gemini. Anyway, I cringe everytime I see a hillbilly 2nd gen with "CAMERO" painted on the doors in big letters. Dude you OWN one and still can't get the name right.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 4th gen in a commercial with a heartbeat in the background and then having it fade to black and hearing a code blue, "Beeeep....." Then hearing an engine start up and rev to live, a hearbeat beating faster and faster, like a person running. Then the 5th gen appears in full glory. With the announcer saying "With a shot of adrenaline the Heartbeat is Restored!....Camaro the Revolution complete!"

The shadow remains the same is one of my favorite old sayings; I never actually saw the commercial, but used to hear about it all the time from one of my friends from CA.
