Yes, b/c of the nationalized healthcare, and lower average wages in Auto mfg.
I'm UAW, not with GM, and hope it resolves quickly, but after st.Therese they're probably more than a little nervous.
CAFE concerns could be causing the delay about other product.

You may be right, but big corporations have their share of "Hargroves" too.

Well I applaud your steadfast faith in GM. But this is a bit deeper and more complex than just GM think of the players and issues. GM, CAW, Oshawa, CAFE, Zeta and basic cost issues for mass production. This can go either way but what the CAW wants, more lines at the Oshawa plant, ie more Zeta’s we already know is on hold to some degree. So the answer for this has yet to make an appearance and we are less than 1 yr from production. The Camaro won't sustain a full plant like Oshawa unless it hits 1969 (strike lengthened) sales numbers.

I'll keep the faith as we have come this far but this could be more than a speed bump.

So should GM add a Firebird or GTO to the line to pick up the slack!

Well, if CAW wants more models for more jobs, why not make the Camaro and add a Firebird to the Line up ( I know its never going to happen )

unions...too stupid to figure out why the situation is the way it is...back in the 80's we would buy new cars and trucks with those little union stickers applied to the windshield that explained how proudly the vehicle was made in the usa..what that really meant was 4 hours replacing stripped interior screws and the like..the good news.i usually found most of the interior screws under a seat..so i always had nice supply...if it was not for trucks..gm, ford or dodge would have been gone 10 years ago...the passenger cars are that bad.and the union wants to strike the very plant that will produce the hottest car chevy has seen in years..dumb dumb dumb..i hope chevy mothballs the plant and moves it across the border

We need to rethink this whole doom and gloom "we're dropping Zeta now" premise in light of this news. GM may posturing in an attempt to paint a picture that they're giving up on Zeta in order to give them some leverage in contract negotiations with the union. The union is appearantly calling them on it and reminding them of a promise for additional models other than Camaro. I think when all is said and done, each side will have to give up a little bit and eventually we may hear some news that GM is adding another model or two to Oshwa in 2009.

Good point. I can picture GM taking a certain public stance - "Oh no we can't possibly make a lot of zetas now" - to strengthen their negotiating position(s) with the UAW/CAW. Only time will tell.

Can't swear to it but, from my experience, stripped screws usually come from having to use 20 year old driver tools (no or inferior torque settings)and cheap bits from China, both supplied by the company.
Not to mention they get like 3 minutes to install an entire DASH, less for door panels etc...
I usually bring in my own Stanley or Craftsman or Dewalt bits, makes my job a lot easier...

There are lots of dynamics at play here.

The rise of the Canadian dollar and UAW health care concessions, which makes US assembly lines more attractive.

CAFE.

The cancellation of maybe 250,000 or so Zetas per year at Oshawa.

Lots of things are headed for a collision course.
How this ultimately affects the Camaro - your guess is as good as mine.

I think GM has too much PR invested in the Camaro to kill it, I think they'd walk away from the cash investment pretty easily though.
