Which is better?

I'm sure most of you know why I'm asking.

I think the arguments on the weight issue and S/C vs. 427 has gotten a little... weedy (for lack of a better word) and I'm trying to regain some focus.

Which is more important: being able to tell people you have lot's of horsepower, having the absolute lowest weight, or simply having a great all around car?

Wow... your answers are all over the map... almost like the are parts of different polls. Let's see if I can address each of them:

"Which is the most important to you:"

Ok, I got the question... I just don't see how your response apply.

"I don't care what it weighs, I want 500 Horse"

Only 500 HP? Why limit ourselves? Seriously. A better answer would be "class leading performance". I think we all would check that box.

"I'm okay with the 380 horse L76 if it runs high 12's"

Do you really think a 380 HP truck motor in a 3700lb coupe is going to run 12s? Seriously? A better answer would be "class leading performance". I think we all would check that box.

"I simply want a good looking car that is a strong performer in all objective categories"

A better answer would be "class leading performance". I think we all would check that box.

Are you beginning to see my point? No?

We all want a good looking car with class leading performance in all objective categories. Whether or not that comes in a 400 HP, 500 HP or gazillion HP coupe doesn't really matter, does it?

The problem is, there are guys getting postal over whether the car will weigh 3500# or 3800#. The 6.2 S/C vs. 427 thread is all about which one will generate 600 horse more cost effectively.

You and I have the same point, one I was hoping that a random/ridiculous poll would illustrate.

To me, and to most people here, and I hope to the design team, the most important thing is overall performance.

You and I think the same. I don't care if the car weighs 4500 pounds, as long as it runs decent-to-great times on the track and gets decent-to-great fuel economy. I don't care if the car weighs 3000 pounds as long as it has some decent options and is comfortable to drive.

If I wanted a Lotus Elise, I'd buy one. If I wanted a Mercedes S500, I'd buy one.

Let's trust the guys at GM and save the nit-picking and stress fits until Jan 2009.

That's because there has not been any Camaro "news" worth discussing and people are getting all worked up over nothing.

My guess is the weight will be somewhere between 3500# and 3800# (closer to 3800#) and the performance will be class leading. If I had to place money on it, I'd say the top Camaro gets the 6.2 S/C. However, let's wait and see what develops. Scott has already said the engineering isn't done and they're working on the weight issue. If that's the case, I seriously doubt that the powertrain details have been worked out beyond "there will be a V6 and a V8 version."

Yes, we are definitely in the same boat.
