I have not heard anything but I just get a feeling we will see a show car in Detroit based on a more production base car.

I just suspect we will see something 75-80% but with some custom addtitions to take it just over from showing a production car.

GM has done this alot with several cars like the 02 Ground Force GP that lead to the 04 GP and several other car. They also did this with the G8 last year in Chicago.

I just don't expect a big wow car but I cant see them letting this go with out some kind of unshown Camaro sharing the stage with the new Impala that is going to be there.

With the Charger and Challanger sitting accross the floor they need something to draw the crowd away.

We very well could see this very car Lutz drove with some trick additions? Now is the time to get these cars ready shook down as the SEMA cars are already out of the shop and in or on the way to Vegas.

 

No, but its becoming more and more common and now almost standard in vehicles if you want a "leg up" in technology. When a 15k Versa has push button ignition, and a Camaro doesnt, you wonder why.
Yeah, its gimicky but its becoming standard more and more, especially from the imports.

 

I WANT A KEY!! the first time you have to shell out 400-600 dollers for a new smart key (thats what toyota calls it) because you lost one or dropped it in water you'll wish you had a key too.

 

I never said I didn't want a key! And actually, I'm not sold on the whole "Smart Key" idea anyway - especially with Nissan's needing to be reprogrammed because someone's cell phone went off.

No, for me a key (not a $400 key) - just a key is OK.........add a start button on the dash along with that key and THAT is what I'm looking for......is that a gimmick? I don't think so, but it does lend a certain style

 

As in, you slide your key into the ignition, press start, she fires up, but with no key in the ignition, nothing happens? Again, it's a bit gimmicky

 

Technically it's no more gimmicky than having to turn the key, we're just used to the action of turning a key because it's always been like that.

 

Actually there were "starter buttons" many years ago, though most were foot actuated on the floor/firewall, so it hasn't always been like that.

The vette has a true no key system. Why can't the camaro? I can't think its more expensive to produce.. Its plastic, its a button rather than a key teeth, holes and a lot of moving parts. Its lighter to have simple cables and in the end... if you fire up ANY GM vehicle now.. its not a direct link with the starter... you can actually turn the key and let go fast and the car will finish its start up process...

Why can't we have auto doors and push button like the vette? i think it should be cheaper as less mechanisms and it should be lighter. And if they are integrated into caddies and such. No power lock motors, no handles needed, nor the mechanisms associated with it, which means, even lighter doors. Same thing with the push button which is kind of nice to have and need no key.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HAVE FULL AUTO DOWN AND AUTO UP ON ALL WINDOWS.. thank you. for the rest... i can live with manual steering wheel, manual seats, manual the rest.

 

I really really hope we see a production based prototype camaro at this chicago auto show. I'm guessing production sheet metal with bigger wheels and hopefully some kind of badging.

 

Yup! Just gave me flashbacks reminding me of my old 1951 3100 5-window pickup. Turn key to connect the power and push the old starter button on the floorboard.
