Buy immediately or wait and see?

Buy immediately or wait and see?
I've been thinking about the question raised in the GTO thread; namely whether to buy the first year, or wait and see what upgrades there are.
I am definitely going to buy, and have already started making payments into a bank account.
So I thought a poll would be fun to see what everyone else's inclinations are.
I'm thinking of the 1st gens fo e.g.; came out '67 but the '69 is generally regarded as the peak, then downhill with the second gen in '70. Also when Chevelle came out the best engine was the 327, then a few years later you could get a 454.
So 35 years from now will an '09, '10, or '11 be the epitome of 5th gens?
I'm thinking maybe wait and see....

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
I'm going to buy one the first year and if they make any drastic changes for the 2nd year model then I'll trade mine in on one. Probably not the brightest thing to do but I've waited too long for a new camaro!

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
Probably everyone is going to want to wait and pickup the best model, but if that happens, the Camaro is doomed, since nobody will buy it when it comes out, what's the driving force to keeping it alive?

Buy immediately. No question about it. Then I will trade up later.
Here's the thing...if you want a better one to come along, don't wait if you can help it. If everyone didn't buy the 1st year, there would be no reason to make a 2nd year. 2002 wasn't very long ago...

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
Not buy at all unfortunately. I already have 2 4th gen's that I love already, and plan to hopefully keep them all my life. Very excited to hear about the new camaro, but I already have mine. Plan to move on to buying a house next year so no new cars for a while.
Now if I come across a LARGE sum of money....well...you know... first in line!

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
The REAL question is how "modifyable" they will make it! If you can buy a V8 the first year and can modify it very easily...engine, intake, cam, forced induction, etc.....why wait until the next year when more than likely your mods will blow away the next upgrade "level"? That is the whole definition of a Camaro!

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
I'd buy the first year with an A6 unless they make the LS-8 GT500 killer. Then I'll have to wait to get that. Although, I don't think I'll be able to wait that long to buy a new car. My car is already a teenager at 13 years old. So I might buy the first year and then trade up once it comes out (GM better make it).

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
I would wait.
1. dealer's are gonna be marking stuff up
2. I probably won't be getting what I want in the first year because dealers are gonna know they can sell it to someone without a hassle, while I will be looking for a car with the stuff I want, nothing extra! They most likely won't want to deal with me.
3. GM will probably start throwing out incentives....and I'd be pissed if they did it after I bought my car. (how many times have they said "this is the last time")
4. I want to see how well these cars mod. I will be watching this board and others very closely the first year to see if the engine is a dud, or a stud. If it is sensitive to mods, I'll really want the car, if it isn't, I will just keep waiting...

Re: Buy immediately or wait and see?
2 things that would keep me from buying right away are GM's inability to offer a full lineup the first year of top performer, vert, and base level cars. Also, I will never, ever pay more than MSRP for a car, no way. So iffff they came out w/ the top dog the first year, and iffff I could get it w/out dealer greed, then I would look seriously at it, but from what I understand, the model that I want won't be available the first year, plus I have little faith that the dealers will be able to contain themselves when it comes to markups on the V8 cars. Just look at the '05 Mustang GT's when they were new. If I need something to get me by until then, I'll get a C5 Z06 or something.
