Calling GuionM

Re: Calling GuionM
Novas and classic Camaros had fuel guages in the dash if I remember (and maybe the temp guage as well), while the console had oil and alt guages. The Camaro concept has all it's guages save the spedo and tach in the console. Instead of having guages in easy view of the driver, you have to not only take your eyes off the road, but you have to look towards and refocus towards the floor on guages that aren't much bigger than a few quarters.
Personally I like the idea, but I'm sure because of insurance and safety BS they will be done away with.

Plus, with a lot of the secondary gauges being incorporated into the Driver Information Center computers on a lot of cars these days, it certainly wouldn't be any worse than having to toggle through a bunch of screens to get to the information you want on the screen.

Your wrong on this one. At least if you mean 1st Gen Classic Camaros. They were on the console which is why the concept had it. The needle went right to left with white background however instead of up and down with hugger orange back ground...
Only thing in those dashes were a Speedometer on the left and a Gas gauge on the right. If you got the Z28 or I think even the SS you got a Clock in between those gauges. Also I think the Z's and even SS got a tach in place of the Fuel gauge in the dash but Oil, Temp, Battery were in the console. Gas gauge gets moved to the console as well as it gets replaced by the tach...

If GM displays all of this info in an HID, fine. I still think it is a stupid place for the gauges though.

For the life of me, I can't remember where the gas gauge was.

Year One
"Gauge cover for 1968-1969 models equipped with a center console gauge cluster."
So if you had the factory optioned tach and console gauges as it came from GM I would think they would be in the console the way the 69s were. Thats going off of Year One but for 69 Im sure of it.
My 69 speedometer goes up to 120. The 140 was an option that came on the COPO cars and may have been an option for others but I cant find it in the white book and cant remember where I read that...

It is interesting what time will do to one's taste. Its been 20 years since I had my '68. At that time, I preferred the '68 look over the '69. I never really bonded with the '69 at all. Today however, I prefer the '69 over the '68.
