Maybe that is the point and the dude is just that ancient?
to my knowlege they were all gear selectors on the floor. My 69 was had the 747 throttle looking gear selector. Im not big on automatics but I thought that looked cool.

That's correct. The column shifter was standard back in the day. While all my Camaros have floor shifters, my 1967 Chevelle Malibu had a 3-speed manual shifter on the column, often referred to as a "three on the tree".

Re: Camaro Commercial.............

The first commercial was cool. Way better than the "Miss Ellen" commercial.

The second one was just dumb.
Column shift? Really?
The noises he was making sounded more like an out of tune 4 cyl rather than a V-8.
Fail.

Re: Camaro Commercial.............

Ahh...the ol' "three on the tree". It is weird to see someone shift using one of them.

^ well it's up and out of the way, regardless, in the commercial they show a 2011 Camaro, so it should of been on the floor, still a funny commercial though.

I don't know much about the Tribeca Film Festival, but I think they are independent-type of films, and not necessarily made by GM/Chevrolet.

Re: Camaro Commercial.............

1st one is great... 2nd one not so much... the Tribeca Film Festival is independent GM had a contest to get some commercials for the Camaro. I think it's a great little marketing stunt as they get people in that environment to look at the camaro.

I agree on all counts.

What I learned to drive a manual on, a 1969 Ford Ranger work truck. Learning how to drive in stop and go rush hour traffic on the I85/75 mega lanes of Atlanta. It also didn't have power brakes, 2 feet to hold it on a hill with all you got. I don't miss either of those features. Column shifter on a Camaro just looks wrong

I also learned to drive on my dad's 65 GMC w/ a 3-spd on the column. Aside from my 67 Chevelle, my 51 Chevy pu also had a 3-spd on the tree. Column shifters were standard and fairly common before the late 1960s. FWIW on TV last night I saw an original unrestored 69 COPO Camaro 427... with a column shifted automatic. If that's wrong... I don't want to be right.

Re: Camaro Commercial.............

Yes - you could get a column shift on a first gen Camaro - with either automatic or 'three on the tree'

you could also get it on the early 2nd gens - again, automatic or 3 on the tree.........

Not everyone likes burnouts - and not everyone likes the Miss Ellen commercial...........

.........and THAT, my friends - is why advertising is targeted........

For what it's worth?

The Miss Ellen commercial scored off the charts - moreover, I've had dozens upon dozens of emails and remarks from people telling me how much they loved it............

To each his/her own............

Re: Camaro Commercial.............

that's the thing about marketing... you will never create one single campaign that will please everyone... you gotta create a different ones and hope that each of those touch on the most amount of people.
