That's what I said 4 posts ago ^ ^ ^ ^ .

Do I seriously think we'll see a 427 in an everyday Camaro...no, but I can dream with all of you...
But we'll likely get a supercharged 6.2L making roughly the same power in an everyday Camaro, and that's not dreaming!

Dreams CAN come true!!

(and I'm simply basing my new-found "hope" off the original post in this thread ..... apparently "someone" sees a 7.0L as a possibility! )

There are a lot of people saying that blown is bad...I can live with it

and if Lutz seems to think a 427 is possible...then go for it, why the hell not?

I have nothing against a blown 6.2L, but I just don't think it fits the bill for the "ideal" Z/28 engine. And hearing rumour that a toned-down version of the "LS7" may make it into production, just gives me hope and encouragement!!

Think about it, back in the hay-days, there were several engine options, each with their specific purpose. The 302 was a high-revving screamer for the road course. The 350 was the "bread & butter" blend of power and "economy". The 396's offered the "pin-you-to-the-seat", tire-shredding torque . Oh, and the 427's & 454's were for those that just couldn't get enough!

I realize that putting a "427" into a Z/28 wouldn't 100% reflect the history/heritage argument, but since there's no real advantage (with the newer technology, materials, etc.) to running a "smaller" (displacement only) engine, then I say bring it on! Look at how well the Z06 package works, with amazing handling and awesome acceleration. The engine helps that package, and "427 c.i." holds some heritage value with it .

I'd certainly like to see some data proving that theory.

And for the record, no, I don't believe the LS7 will ever find its way into a production Camaro either.

Although I personally consider the LS7 to be the pinnacle of smallblock-ness, I think we need to forget about it. Both the Gen IV smallblock and the 7 liter displacement are nearing the end of their lifespan.

By circa '12, there will be a new gen of normally aspirated smallblocks which will exceed the LS7.

Whether possible or not a LS7 (dry sump and all) in a lightly optioned, stiff spring/shocked, wide tired, deep geared (3.90/4.10), six speed Camaro would be a dream come true.

The 302 was only built to meet trans am homologation. If it were not for the 5.0L production rule (which was discontinued after 1969) the Z/28 would have never existed and the Camaro SS-350 would have become the defunct version for trans am. In fact some early trans am Camaros were SS-350s with 302s installed by the racing teams.

Furthermore a 454 was never available in a production Camaro.

Unfortunately, no ... not "production". BUT, that didn't stop dealers from doing it :

The LS-6 454 shows up on the engine list for 1970 Camaros on nastyz28.com, but again, I realize they never made production .

are crate LS7's hand built too? or just the ones in the Z06?
Pretty sure I have seen companies that offer a wet sump LS7 crate, so I wasn't sure.
