cheaper than a lsa or ls9. ls7 is about 12-15 grand on ebay. 25 for the ls9.
what kind of benefits would there be by putting a ls7 in, as opposed to achieving the same amount of power in the ls3?

For one, on the LS7, you don't have the weight penalty or higher center of gravity or heat issues associated with blower installations.

The LS7 is race hardened and many people prefer pure normal aspiration to forced induction.

Both the LS7 and LS9 are designed with dry sumping in mind, the LS3 isn't. There is precious little difference in dry mass between the LS3 and LS7.

As you say, an LS7 will always be cheaper than a forced LS3 or factory LS9 for that matter.

They're just a few benefits of the LS7.

the ls7 is about 15 grand and the ls9 is about 25k (crate motor). im guessing the lsa is somewhere around 20+ being that it is pretty much the same as the ls9.

The Grand Sport spec LS3 is probably at least as durable as the LS7, at least within it's design parameters. But that said, obviously if you cam it ot 505HP peak it isn't going to make the same average power of the LS7.

As far as the LS9 is concerned, it is very good motor and hopefully it won't have too many issues on the track. Lest we forget the whole early LS7 exploding phenomenon under higher than stock cornering that may or may not have been due to lack of capacity in the dry sump or maybe some intrinsic valvetrain problem.

i would love to throw a ls7 in my car. i found a few online for about 10k. but excluding the computer, dry sump lines and i think the oil pan, or maybe the dry sump system. but after having it installed and all that stuff done, you got 15k in it.

waste of time, get a stroker kit for the LS3, do a custom cam, and a cyl head upgrade, 6-8k into it and you got a killer on your hands.

The Corvette guys claim that the valvetrain is the problem.
