Camaro In The Snow...Yes, I said it.

Okay, I know this has been asked extensively but I've decided that I will continue to ask until I hear the answer I want...kidding. Eh, kind of kidding.

Seriously though, is there anyway that getting around in a 2010 Camaro in the snow is halfway feasible? I mean, when you add in the fancy traction control, the snow tires, not to mention my stellar driving record...is there a chance?

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm in the same boat, and I'm looking at the 2SS. I do strongly believe that Winter Tires will make all the difference. I would use a dedicated 18" rim set as winter tires. But I suggest to GM that they consider creating Winter Tire Packages through their dealers, similar to Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The 18" tires that come standard on the the LT models would probably be a good start. I live in Toronto, and the last two years have been brutal, so if I'm buying this car, I need to make sure that I can survive the winter in it. Otherwise, I'll have to look at a WRX (cheaper than camaro), EVO GSR (same price), 535xi ($15,000 more) or C3504matic ($10,000 more).

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I'm with you. Surely someone can give us an unbiased review here. And I'm not talking about driving it in the "Snow" that consists of perfectly plowed streets. I'm talking about driving IN THE SNOW, as in, the snow is falling.

About 6 years ago I worked with BMW on their MINI Cooper campaign that focused on winter driving in Canada. We took about a dozen owners to Mt. Tremblant near Montreal and sent them on a snow covered road course. They were ripping around all day having a great time, without a crash. I can't remember which brand of tire we used but they were snow tires. Anyways, what am I getting at? If GM could do something similar this year that would be great. We need a SNOW TEST!

The new stabilitrac that is standard on the Camaro will make snow a non-issue. I drove a 2WD Trailblazer SS for two winters on the factory 20's and never had a problem. Sometimes you move REALLY slow, but always moved. The stabilitrac will also keep it straight in the snow too when the wheels are spinning and you are moving. I was amazed at how well it worked. When you are cornering, it even helps the turn by slowing the inside rear tire to bring you around, and stuff like that.

So if snow is your concern, don't sweat it.

Sorry, I've owned 4 Camaro's everything from a 87 IROC w/ a 350 TPI to a 2000 Z28 and they are one of the worst cars you could possibly have in snow.

I live in a area that averages 70 inches of snow a year, but I don't care...I'm gonna have what I want dammit

My wife and I drive our G35 coupe in the snow. The first two years it was miserable as we kept the all season on it, but this last winter we put snow tires on it and it was fine. I know it's not a Camaro, but if you’re thinking about a V6 Camaro the two would probably behave similar in the snow.

I drove all 3 or my V8 4th Gens in sig as daily drivers in Michigan so you know they all saw plenty of snow. The biggest problem I ever had was the car turning into a snow plow in deep snow because it sits so low. You'll get stuck everytime. But stay away from deep snow and drive carefully and its A to B transportation.

But really the question is why not buy a winter vehicle FWD or a old truck so you can keep your Camaro clean in the garage.

Tires make all the difference. Get dedicated snows.

Yea and SUV with 20" summer eagles. To the snow, it looks pretty much the same as a Camaro unless it is three feet deep.

Here is Cheryl Pilcher's response to this exact question:

"Have no fear... the 20" Pirelli Camaro SS tires will be available in a snow tire configuration which I would recommend for those of us who need it. The 18" & 19" Camaro all season factory tires have 80% of the snow traction of a snow tire. Thus far these tires have performed admirably in the Michigan winter.
"

... and you could always put dedicated snows on the smaller wheels.

Best regardSS,

Elie

GM had Pirelli do snow tires in a 20" size for Camaro. When Scott picked up his yellow car, it was sporting those tires.

The stock 18" wheels will not clear the brembos on the SS. That has been confirmed by GM. It wont be as simple as finding takeoff wheels from a V6 owner.
