Re: Camaro on verge of revival

I like the mention of a Buick sedan AND coupe Reborn Regal or Riviera, anyone? I'd love to see a more luxurious, Lexus-like Regal with a great interior and a nice engine lineup...a true personal luxury coupe. If it was styled well and premium inside, it would sell...and wouldn't come close to cannibalizing a GTO, let alone a Camaro.

The standards a car must meet are determined by where it will be sold, not where it's built. Camaro was always going to be sold in Canada so it was always in the plan to meet Canadian standards regardless of where it's built.

In fact, pretty much any car designed for sale in the US is also designed to meet Canadian requirements. It's not a huge deal if it's baked in from the get-go. The problem with GTO was that it initially wasn't designed for sale in the US (nor Canada). It had to have significant modifications to meet US standards, but it just wasn't worth it to do the additional mods required for Canadian consumption.

Ok, I forget. The Camaro's didn't have DRL's right? They had the parking lamps lit up instead didn't they? I assume it was the same for Camaro's as it was for Firebirds and they obviously couldn't have DRL's so had the parking lamps.

I disabled the DRL's on my '00 S10 Xtreme when I had it.

If the new Camaro has them, I'll be looking up how to disable those as well...

I don't notice many new cars with DRL's anymore. A good thing imo, I hated them.

DRLs don't necessarily have to be the headlights. On many cars, like Camaro, the signal lamps serve that function both in Canada and the US. They just have to meet certain brightness standards.

I don't like them either. Like CHMSLs and lots of other supposed safety enhancers, it's like certain parts of our government have too much free time on their hands, and need to keep changing things to justify their existence.

I should have pointed out I was asking for a reminder if Camaro's had _headlight_ DRLs. Sorry.

I believe I'd disabled my signal lamp DRLs in my Camaro. I remember it being located behind the radio and it also disabled the auto-on headlights.

The new Camaro will likely have DRL's but I hope they are the turn signals, not the headlights. And please, make them easy to change out.

Ok,so we say the Camaro is on the verge of revival. But when exactly will that revival be.Some said 2 years or less, then I see it won't come till 2010!? So what's up? Are we to see this baby in mid to late 2007 dubbed as an 2008 or in 2008 dubbed as a 2009 model.Help yo boy out here I'm just alittle worried.(And more than likely it's for no reason)

I couldn't agree more! The Lucerne is a great step in the right direction in terms of luxury and quality. Now if they could follow that up with a nice coupe, Buick's sales should shoot up. Even the biased mags that rant and rave on everything euro have been giving the Lucerne credit for it's interior quality and refinement. Now if GM could learn how to advertise. . . I mean how about that Queit Tuning, that is only on Buicks? How many people know about it? How many lexus, audi, bmw, infinti, etc . . . buyers know about Buick's Quiet Tuning. It seems advertising was nearly non existant for our beloved Camaro that is on the verge of revival. Hopefully GM will advertise it so it can see some SURVIVAL. Ok, I'm done ranting.

They didnt have headlight DRLs they were parking light DRLs. The 4th Gens however did have light sensing Headlights that Came on when the sun went down or you went into a tunnel. They were kinda cool but I would have loved to shut them off. I never backed in my drive because my headlights went right in my neighbors house.

To shut off the headlights while the car was running if they had come on, you have to shut the car off pull the e brake start the car and leave it in park.

That was a good read but I wish the US could get some jobs here.

The relay (or whatever you call it) to disable the DRL's on the Camaro also disables the auto-on headlights. It's behind the radio. Which relay exactly I don't remember, but I do remember doing it in my '02 back when I had it.

Search for it online, that's where I found out how to do it.

it said,

GM hopes to have the Camaro and other members of its new rear-wheel-drive family of cars in production by 2010.
so, this sounds like they hope to have all cars on that platform out by then, not that the camaro won't be ouit before then

blah. In 2010 I'll be approaching 30 years old, not sure if I'll still have it in me to own these expensive toys. Who knows.

And 30 is ancient or something?

I'm 31 now. I have no doubt I'll 'have it in me' to own expensive toys in 5 years. In your 30's is when you can actually afford most of the really desirable 'toys'. LOL
