Chevrolet accepting orders for Camaro In February?

I read earlier tonight on Ward's Auto (premium content) a nice article about the new Malibu. The author spoke at length about the new Malibu with Ed Peper.
In this same article, Ed also dropped that dealers would be accepting orders for the new Camaro in February. I can't get to the premium site from home, only from work.
He also talked about special editions of the GMT-900 trucks to counter the new F-150. He mentioned that the TrailBlazer was holding it's own against the competition. He then talked about the Colorado/Canyon and H3T. It appears as if the H3T is a go; that Shreveport is tooling up for the truck. Ed also said that while no decision about a future Colorado/Canyon has been made at this point, IF they decide to do another one, it will NOT be sourced from Thailand, Brazil, or Asia.

Somebody needs to get to that site and copy & paste the article here.

Sorry if this is a repost.

February? I was just on the Berger Chevrolet website and you can place a deposit on either a new v6 or V8 Camaro... Takes $1000 for a deposit and the more you "bid" over MSRP, the higher up the allocation ladder you go. Ha, and you pay your deposit and bid by Paypal. I didnt think this was being allowed yet?

Sounds like Berger Chevrolet needs to go on a list of those dealers more than willing to screw the consumer! While it's up to the consumer to "bid up" over MSRP, such foolishness should not be tolerated. I realize GM can't do anything about it, but we certainly should not reward such dealers by giving them our business. I absolutely will not pay over MSRP if I have to wait for hell to freeze over before buying a new Camaro.

.....and let the price gouging begin . Screw those guys ! Unfortunately, there's plenty of people out there with more money than sense, and some people that are just plain fools, so they probably won't have any problem finding victims.....ummmm, I mean buyers.

I'd like to see that interview with Peper. If that is the case, they should have the prices and options finalized by then also which seems a little early to me for a (likely) early 2009 release.....but who knows .

I think that should just about guarantee that the unveiling of the "real" Camaro would come before then .

I'd really like to see that article.

Why would dealers start taking orders for a car that won't be released until a year later? Especially when nothing has been finalized?

I personally think anyone paying over MSRP is a fool. If your local dealer is charging over MSRP, just go somewhere else to buy your Camaro. There are dealers that won't charge more than MSRP on new products, ya just gotta find them. There are a lot of dealers that are crooks, but there are honest ones too .

I'm still trying to figure out this berger thing. I don't think the site you were on was for the dealer. I didn't see anything like was posted, and I could only find where you could sign up and win a camaro, not put a deposit and bid to be first in line. maybe there is another berger out there doing it, but either way someone needs to figure out who made that page and where that money is going to.
or maybe I just skipped over it, but regardless, that page shouldn't be there

Agreed. I haven't talked with a salesman in a few months, but the last time I checked my local dealer, Michael Stead Chevrolet-Cadillac, in Walnut Creek, CA. they told me they would never charge over MSRP.

Shop around. If my dealer's policy changes, I'll be making my next purchase from someone else.

Never Never Never pay over MSRP. I don't mind paying sticker for a hot car, but I'm never so impatient that I'll pay over, especially for a car like Camaro, that they will build as many of as people want from the the get go. NOT like a Z06 where they only build maybe 6k a year, and even those are getting dealt on now.

but this is the kind of thing that's going to make it suck when they first hit the streets for no gtelling how long. dealers will look at things like this and see what people are willing to pay for it and throw on their own markup based on it. its becoming too high profile of a car it seems, which can both be good and bad for it. starting to wonder if i'll ever be able to afford one with all the mark ups...really don't want to have to look elsewhere for a fun, fast, AFFORDABLE, car
