Chevrolet COPO Camaro Goes From Concept to Production

Re: Chevrolet COPO Camaro Goes From Concept to Production
I doubt it only costs GM 15K to make. These are non-production assembly cars, hand-crafted. Hand built engines, TIG welded rollbars, etcetera. They probably cost GM significantly more since they have to create a workshop for the creation of these vehicles, and employ the labor of setting up a logistics supply system for them as well. GM is an ISO9000 company, meaning they have significant labor and paperwork costs for creating the program. It's not the same as some independent grabbing their welder and fabricating the car. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they spend an extra $1M to create this COPO program, meaning the 69 cars must amortize $14,500 per vehicle in addition to regular production costs. Figure a standard automotive markup of 3:1 and you get to a retail of $90K pretty quickly.

great point.....not sure GM thought this through...the 69 sounds cool and has a great past to it...but honestly....if they can push them and people will buy them, limit the number to 100 or so...maybe more. its still limited productin. and i dont see gm making another camaro and sellign it for 89K when they only have 15 in it. great profit margin there.
Yes anyone can go find them a body and build them a budget racer in their home garage for alot less. Now go buy a 5th gen camaro, new stang/charger drop it off at the shop and say make this a "race car" and see how much it'll cost you.

Looks like I'll be switching brands - Chevrolet called the other day and I'm getting one -- Victory Red - my favorite ! ! ! Anyone else have one coming ? And yes --- I'm going to race it .One of 69 is neat but I'm not into having it sit around collecting dust ...............

Re: Chevrolet COPO Camaro Goes From Concept to Production
Just a little update on the delivery of the new Copo cars - they fell a little behind on production but in a few weeks the first will be off the line .
Mine ?? Its coming but will be finished in a few months - Chevrolet tells me I should look for it to be finished around October or so .One has to remember these are hand built racers and they will not just be thrown together as some ( such as mine ) will be raced .Many will be in collections ( such as Rick Hendricks ) and will never see the track .Look for the last one early next year to be auctioned off at one of the big auctions for charity .
I'll try and keep everyone updated ..........
