Concept in new GM commerical

Re: Concept in new GM commerical
Wow a Camaro in a commercial again! Pretty cool commercial overall, I hope its on more than just once and they have different versions showing the same theme. The Saab with the Jets... makes me laugh a bit after the "born from jets" but I guess it fits.
At the part that says steal the show... what car is that???

There was absolutely nothing wrong with that commercial.
Though I have an idea of what the reason was, and if so, it sickens me that people refuse to stop blaming tv, music, movies, etc. for everything stupid a kid does... I won't even get started on that pet peeve of mine.
If I'm wrong, then the above was an overreation, though the sentiment still exists. LOL

oh man..........we got inundated with complaints from Clarence Ditlow (I'd make a comment on him, but I'm too much of a gentleman) Joan Claybrook (again, too much of a gentleman) Mrs. Judith Stone (director of some safety organization) and several others.......saying we were 'irresponsible' and we encourage young children to take Mom or Dad's car for a joyride.
Welcome to the age of Political Correctness. (just kill me now.......)

Hey, I took Dad's Corvette out for a *ahem* "Washing" when I was 17 . Other than a ticket for "excessive speed" (good thing he clocked me when I was coasting downhill (L48's WILL do 120 up I-70 (in the mountains) ). Anyways, I turned out just fine, twitch, twitch!

CADILLAC CROSSES THE LINE
Statement by Clarence Ditlow, Center for Auto Safety
I accept this Hubbard award on behalf of General Motors for its irresponsible commercial that promotes sales over safety by using a flagrantly illegal and dangerous passing maneuver to hype the performance of the Cadillac Catera.
"You follow the leader. You follow the pack. Then, you get a new Catera. Suddenly, you don't follow anything. We were born to lead." the announcer states on this commercial as the Catera is shown suddenly swerving out into the oncoming lane by crossing a double yellow line to pass a BMW and a Lexus. This maneuver is illegal in every state. Even worse, the passing takes places going uphill on a two lane road where an approaching vehicle will have a harder time slowing down to avoid colliding head-on with the Catera which is in the wrong lane.
Crossing a double yellow line to pass on a two lane road is illegal in every state because it's so hazardous. In 1996, 1,059 people were killed in crashes while driving on the wrong side of the road according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS). If Catera drivers follow the advice of this commercial, they will lead the way to the grave yard. If Cadillac practiced truth in advertising, it would change this ad's lyrics to "Born to die." rather than "Born to be alive."
This commercial is the first of three Cadillac ads in December and January which will stress performance and power over safety. This is the same marketing philosophy that placed sales over safety at General Motors in the 1970's when it advertised the long driving range of the C/K pickup due to the 40-gallon side saddle gas tanks that led to the burn deaths of 800 people. These Cadillac ads replace the quirky red duck that zigs theme that launched the Catera.
It's better to have a duck that zigs than a Caddy that crosses the line. After all, the Cadillac buyer who doesn't cross the line is more likely to be around to buy another Catera than one who crosses a double yellow and comes face to face with an 18-wheeler. Live a little, bring back the duck, Cadillac.

Re: Concept in new GM commerical
I remember the "controversy" over that Corvette commercial but this is the first I've actually seen it. And it's PRETTY COOL!
Does that Clarence Ditlow realize how foolish he sounds? Does he actually think the American public is that ignorant?! What an A$$ clown.
Gotta love those self righteous zealots who feel their purpose in life is to save us poor "little people" from ourselves! Our society is SO fortunate to have one as wise as him willing to lower himself and walk amongst us.
Give me a freakin' break!
..............I'll be good and stop before I get out of control and start bringing politics into it.

The "Pontiac Dancers" are priceless!
Awesome to see the Camaro in an ad.
Love Marilyn blowing a kiss at the end....nice touch!
Although this commercial is basicaly a "stock footage festival" mixed with a "recent ads clip show", Its 100 times better than most of GM's ads from the past few years.
Thumbs up, and hope to see more like it!

Re: Concept in new GM commerical
Saw the commercial last night with my wife.....LOVED it - except the words at the bottom of the screen were TOTALLY unecessary. The images, past and present, are enough to evoke the proper emotions. It's great to see some passion finally come out of GM - especially when fans have had it all along!
And when the Camaro concept comes up - it just gets the blood pumpin' - Man, what a concept that is!! GM needs more positive stuff like this. Maybe for their next big concept they should feature it in a similar commercial first, rather than leaking it through a magazine as they did with the Camaro. Either way, they're looking MUCH better than Ford and especially Toyota's recent commercials!!
