Re: Convertible Rubbing and Pinching Issues!

Here is an update. My new car with the "fixes" in it was produced on 4/4/12. I took delivery on 4/17/12. Today on 5/25/12 with 1138 miles on it and the top down 21 times, I have a 4 inch rub mark once again above the drivers door. The fix is not in and I am not happy at all. Wonder if they may get this fixed for the 3rd production year? I sure wouldn't want to spend 60 large on a ZL1 and have this happen. So sad with all the problems to this beautiful car.

Oh man.............. I feel so bad for you. I have read your posts on Camaro5, and had really hoped that this had been fixed.

I can just imagine how heart wrenching it must be.

What do you even do at this point??

I am still numb. Right now just get it documented and drive it and have fun this summer. Ask me at the end of August how it is doing.

Re: Convertible Rubbing and Pinching Issues!

Sorry to hear. I would be irate as well.

It's strange, we've heard nothing but how extensively Chevy has tested and retested everything whenver a new Camaro model is released (coupe, VERT, ZL1) and they have held up production before when certain things aren't "just right" even down to a slightly misaligned panel or whatever. I even saw a show on I think it was Discovery (?) on the new Camaro convertible and all the steps they were taking to QA the top. Makes you wonder how in the world this was missed.

Is this a common issue or only impacting some but not all convertible tops?

Re: Convertible Rubbing and Pinching Issues!

There are many threads on Camaro5 about it. There is a facebook page with alot of folks on it, also.

I would say the issue is pretty common. When we went to a NAGA tournament in Las Vegas, we were walking out to our truck one morning and there was a Camaro Vert in the parking lot. On the drivers side, the rub mark was pretty visible, and on the passenger side, it was already a hole.

Frankly, it is very sad for these owners, especially considering the price of these cars. The weird thing is, it isn't just one problem. There is a multitude of problems that hit folks. Those who just have one, are "lucky." (I'm sure they don't feel that way) Some folks are getting the whole enchilada of problems, one after another.

I hope GM comes up with a new fix soon. These owners deserve it.

It's a select minority of cars and GM is trying to pin point the issue because of how damaging it is to the top. There has been a TSB released for the cars effected but it seems to be a band aid and not a complete fix.

I was a friend of one of the guys who had to do the top testing on the convertible. Every morning he'd wake up middle of winter opening and closing the top, I believe he had to do it 30-50 times each day, in the freezing cold. This was on a mule car and it had been tested quite heavily already. It had no issues for the 3 months he had it. It's disappointing that all this testing was done and still this top has been problematic with pinching... Then again during those tests they were checking the mechanics more than anything else, and nobody has yet to complain about that.
