The COPO Name Returns to Camaro

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
I am enthusiastically not a fan of this naming decision. The water is already muddy enough on the meaning of COPO; this is only going to make it worse!
I'd really like for GM to have a division akin to Ford's SVT, which actually releases branded versions of cars (e.g. the SVT Cobra). SVT has gotten kinda lame lately, though -- the F150 Raptor is their only current model.

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
You guys forget this is the same company that used the SS name on such idiocracies as the HHR SS, Cobalt SS, etc. (Not that I think the Cobalt SS is a bad car, it's just not what I think of when I think of classic Impala, Camaro, and Chevelle SS's).

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
Make COPO an actual special products division, not just a sticker for slapping on the side of a box of speed parts.

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
With respect to Cobalt, I'm speaking only of the later turbo models; the older NA and Supercharged ones weren't so deserving.
This is to say nothing of the interior design of the HHR or Cobalt, but that's not one of the criteria that makes a car worthy of the SS badge.

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
They only way they could have remained true to the COPO hertage would have been on off-road vehicles only. They would have had to crash test and emissions certify every possible combination otherwise. Just not happeneing.

Re: The COPO Name Returns to Camaro
OK, I guess Ill be the slightly dissenting voice here.
This is exactly what C.O.P.O. was to my knowlege. At the same time this is not the C.O.P.O. 427 ZL1 Camaro's, Nova's etc cars that made the name famous in my mind. I did not expect such a literal interpretation though when I opened the tread. I was sure there would be another super car, or some kind of stripper super car. Even the Yenko's which I believe origninally used the COPO ordering process I consider Yenko cars so as not to confuse them with the famous COPO cars.
2012 Camaro ZL1 is exactly where it was historically. Yes the original 69 COPO ZL1 was a moniker that almost got its own striping package. (two were considered if I recall correctly)
I do not know how I feel about doing this again with the C.O.P.O. moniker but I do agree it does seem redundant with GM Performance Division and GMMP I am curious as to how it fits or if it is a temporary rebranding of GMMP parts.
