Could this push it back?

Could this push back the release? I'm not saying long term, but maybe a few weeks?

Sure it could. But like you said, it would most likely be a short term issue.

So how are they holding this stuff hostage? what is the supplier asking for in return? The article doesn't state.
My guess would be payment for passed parts or something like that to keep them from going into a different stage of bankruptcy, because they say GM wants to give their stuff to another supplier. You can never really tell though with bad journalism.

My neighbor works in the office there and figures she won't even have a job after the first of the year. I'll see her tomorrow and get the scoop...

As Guy mentioned in this thread:

If GM doesn't get the equipment back, the new supplier will have to redevelop the parts and equipment. That would really push things back.

Cadence has the dies for the camaro instrument panel. They mold the panel. Additionally, they purchase the gauges etc. for them from another supplier, assemble the completed IP and sell the entire assembled unit to GM. Keep in mind that this also applies to the floor console with gauges.
Cadence has released the dies to manufacturers in the past, but only after the manufacturer has paid for them. I'm not saying GM has not paid for them...I did'nt want to put my neighbor on the spot answering such a question. However, for whatever reason the dies are not being released to GM at this time. I did not ask if any finished product was being released etc. and again I would'nt put a friend in the position of answering questions like that during such a sensitive time.
So....it would appear that there will be a slight delay for GM to obtain these parts unless the legal beagles can work their magic quickly or GM decides to throw a bunch of sheckles to a supplier. I'm sure it is a situation that GM has worked their way through before.
Another friend was working for a supplier for Chrysler until they went out of business recently. The supplier bankrupted, and Chrysler got in pretty quickly with a court order to take all their dies.
Its getting tougher in this town than people realize...lots of shops are going out of business. This might not be the last supplier problem that GM has before our cars go into production. And it might be only the beginning of a severe domino effect.

Last I read, GM owned all of the tooling.

That's just what "J-I-T" is freaking good for! It makes supply business model impossible.
