If the F5 is governed to say 155, it wouldn't be due to using the Pirelli brand, as speed increases you have to reduce the load (while increasing the tire pressure) that the tire is rated for. It becomes a matter of not being able to fit a big enough tire to carry the load at a high rate of speed for an extended period of time. (Just imagine an F5 loaded with 5 big boned fatties, a full tank of gas, roof rack loaded with luggage because the trunk is so full it is almost going to explode going down the autobahn at near the cars terminal velocity)

Short bursts of speed aren't a problem (witness the plethora of heavy cars running S rate 165/80R15's bug tires as front runners on some very fast drag cars)

Inflation pressure increase must not exceed the maximum pressure branded on the tire sidewall. When a customer requests a replacement tire with a lower speed rating than the original equipment tire, you must clearly communicate to him or her that the handling of the vehicle may be different, and that its maximum speed capability is limited to that of the lowest speed-rated tire on the vehicle. Exceeding the lawful speed limit is neither recommended nor endorsed.

For high-speed driving, additional inflation pressure and possibly reduced tire loading and/or upsizing is required. In the absence of specific recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer, use the following guidelines based on those in the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization Standards Manual.

For speeds over 160km/h (100 mph), load and inflation must be adjusted according to the table below.

FWIW, ('cuz we all know not to bet our lives on information being true since it appears in the press!), the recent article in Motor Trend specifically states that the V6 is electronically limited to 155 mph. (page 2, bottom paragraph)
Definitely not the LS from what Scott is saying.

I drove both the V8 and the V6. I drive a 98Z everyday and to me it felt just like my Z, but lighter. I would be very happy with the V6, but I (we) will be getting a V8 for the bad *** factor.

White should be available around July 09, last we heard.

The late 4th Gen V6s with the 3.8L were governed at 118mph as they had T rated Goodyear Eagle GA's.

the z51 was like 185, the z06 was 200 and the zr1 was 205 i believe. give or take a mph but thats what i remember it saying.

Yes, I think she is referring to the V6, and I concur. My seat of the pants meter says the 5th Gen V6 felt at least as zippy (yeah, it's a technical term) as the '98 Z28 I drive daily. The 5th Gen felt really comfortable and intuitive to drive, and it's not like the 4th Gen at all. I didn't have to get in and familiarize myself with the 5th Gen much. I just hopped in, started it up and took off. It wasn't awkward like it normally feels when you get into a car you aren't used to driving. I can't wait until ours gets built.
