Angry Dont forget the AIRBAGS!!!

Oh the shock, the HORROR! I was dreaming about my new Camaro last night, when it hit me like a thunderbolt. The concept has no airbag in the steering wheel!

Guess what? You all need to look at the interior and visualize what it'll look like with a big, fat lump in the middle of the steering wheel.

That's reality.

Do you still want that car? Is there anything around the dash that you'd change, now that you know about the airbag?

Re: Dont forget the AIRBAGS!!!

This is one of the first things I thought about when I first sat in the car.

I didn't have any worries, I remebered how small the airbag in this steering wheel is:

Airbags don't have to be as massive as they used to be. The days of having a king size pillow for a steering wheel are over:

Quite a difference!

Not to mention, I am sure they will design the steering wheel to compliment the rest of the interior, which WILL change quite a bit.

My preference would be leave them out.

I don't care what they change about the interior ... I just want those seats! They look bad-a$$, and I like how the belts/buckles look integrated into them .

...Jason, you'd know ..... were they comfy??

NHTSA TERRORIZING AMERICANS DAILY
You have some serious issues.

You can't say fire in a crowded movie theater. You can't say bomb in an airplane or inside an airport. You can't stand butt naked in your window if you're visible to public, can't smoke in most resturants in large cities, can't transmit on certain frequencies, can't run a car without it being registered and can't drive it without being liscensed, can't **** on a sidewalk, can't carry open alcohol containers in your car, can't buy alcohol unless you're 21,

There's all types of things you are restricted from doing that isn't terroizing. If you think the NHTSA is terrizoring you just because you can't legally disconnect an emission control device, then.........

BTW: the black box (which I consider a REAL issue that has REAL consequences, not imagined ones like OBD3) isn't from the NHTSA. It's from the automakers and backed by the insurence industry....... and airbags are actually good things.

...this happened to myself and 2 friends while on our way from OSHAWA to DETROIT for the NAIAS in January!! Yes, wrote off our friend's Sunfire, got a ride home, jumped in another vehicle and still made the ~4-1/2 hr drive to Detroit!

...sorry, a little off topic, I know, but it still relates to airbags and the Camaro concept!

But I do agree with Guy ... under normal circumstances, I think airbags are probably a good idea, and as long as they can be concealed nicely like pictured above, then I say we should have them. What might be a nice "option" is having a means of turning BOTH the driver's and passenger's bags OFF like pick-up trucks do for just the passengers? For those who don't like/believe in airbags, at least you'd have the option??

No issues, just my over the top way of expressing my extreme distaste for certian gov't agencies. There is absolutley no need for that worhtless agency.

Point 2 I am aware of and agree 100% with your assesment.

I disagree on the airbags. Just like in our healthcare industry we deal with things after they occur and not before in a preventitive manner.

Re: Dont forget the AIRBAGS!!!

The whole argument about not putting airbags in the car is just S-T-U-P-I-D

No car maker on the planet will make a car without airbags - firstly, it's illegal.

Secondly, people won't want the car even if the laws were changed. Can you imagine the public outcry of a Camaro without airbags? People already think our cars are deathtraps!

Lastly, they're still a good idea. Do they help in all cases? Nope. My wife is 5' 1" and believe me, reports of short people being killed by airbags give me pause. But there's nothing I can do about it because there are just as many instances where that same airbag can save her life.

What exactly did it "hurt" in this situation? The airbags will only inflate if they detect a colision serious enough to be effective.

Re: Dont forget the AIRBAGS!!!

Well in a low speed collision they can bruise you up pretty good, plus you have to pay to have it reset.

Still, "I dont want airbags" come on?

Re: Dont forget the AIRBAGS!!!

Just unplug the damn airbags if you don't like 'em. Don't expect insurance to pay if you get hurt in a wreck though.
