Speculation, speculation...and too much of that and not enough at the same time! C'mon Fbodfather, is there any juicy scrap of meat you can throw the STARVING mongrels?! Seems like you sure have been quiet lately and I don't know if that's good or bad. I'm sure there are others that are about to jump out of their skin for a fix too so please, throw some old dogs a bone!

Is there any news that's fit to print!?

I agree. This forum has been way too quiet lately.

Re: This dry time is AGONIZING Fbodfather!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that there may be an unofficial "holding pattern" that's been instituted with regard to announcements/info given the Delphi situation is still very much up in the air... hopefully sane heads will prevail and there will be no strike... but I just don't know enough about the industry to even remotely guess at what the overall effect on GM would be if it were to happen.
I would guess that it will be averted, because simply too many people have too much to lose if there is a strike, but I just don't have any kind of handle on what the negative scenario would be if it happened. Would it be reasonable to think that a strike by Delphi could have a negative impact on the 5th Gen production timetable? Perhaps a couple of the "insiders" here could elaborate, or better yet, put my fears about this to rest!

Best regardSS,

Elie

What do you want to hear??

I've been quiet lately 'cause I've been exceptionally busy........

Have faith, my friends, have faith.

(keep one thing in mind....if I say something, I mean it. It's not like I can lie to you and then just disappear off the earth ...) I intend to keep my credibility.

(well........OK.....MEBBE I'd disappear off the earth, but not by my choice! )

the future indeed looks bright!

LOL, damn and I wanted to be the first to start a new rumor. Sad thing is there are those who will read that and actually think there's something to it. I mean I love this forum and I know we have some really great people in here that do have knowledge of what's happening. I just can't get over these people that will argue with each other over stuff that isn't even fact. Oh, and the electric version will have external speakers that will play V8 noises to scare off the mustangs LOL

IANAI[I Am Not An Insider], but I was thinking the exact same thing.

I believe that holding off on the production news is being done for strategic/political reasons.

(1) The Delphi situation needs to coalesce one way or the other - no one has a good read on it yet. GM can better make a decision when they know that either the Union is going to strike or the Union is *not* going to strike. Stike or no strike will determine GM's actions, and at this point, there is not enough information to see which way its gonna go.

(2) The more dire GM's situation, the more bargaining power they will have during the 2007 contract negotiations. If GM looks too much like it is recovering and headed for big profits, the less likely GM will be able to get concessions out of the Union. I think everyone on the planet agrees that the Camaro will do well if produced. If GM gives the Camaro a greenlight prior to contract negotiations, it gives more power to the UAW as a case for a profitable GM, and therefore no concessions can be had. GM desparately needs to get their Union costs to a manageable point, and prematurely announcing a winner in their lineup isn't going to help their case.

(3) The longer GM holds off on the official greenlight for the Camaro, the more plants can compete against one another for production. We see this already. Plants both in Canada and the U.S. are doing various things to attract GM's Camaro production to their site. It is in GM's interest to let the various plants duke it out. The longer GM holds out, the more competitive the various plant offers become. It makes sense.

(4) The longer GM holds out, the more successful they will be in pitting UAW America against UAW Canada. The ability to drive a wedge in that solidarity is priceless. Its one thing to get the plants to compete with one another. Its quite another to get the Unions to compete against one another. Its a rare opportunity that I am sure GM is quite aware of.

I can see the future... a nice blue 5th Gen Camaro (hopefully the blue is along the lines of a Electron Blue from the 02-03 Vettes) parked right next to my Z06. doesn't get any better than that.

I have it from a reliable source that the Camaro will in fact have 4 wheels
