And so does the 4th Gen. Score one 4th Gen!

How hard would it be to bolt CTS SLA into a Camaro?

Then again SLA v strut isn't the only determinant of handling prowess. There are several good handling cars from Bavaria and Stuttgart.

At the end of the day, I guess it really depends on how much effort and focus GM wants to put into the Z/28. It already looks like it's getting the CTS-V's larger brakes, so that's one good thing. I don't know what the current budget is for the Z/28, but before BK it was reported to be $20M. And then shortly after that, slashed in half. And then after that canceled completely. I have no idea what GM is spending on it now, but it's safe to say that the bulk of it's development has already been completed (and has been for awhile), with only minor tweaking left. Pretty much, the cake is baked.

I haven't seen any spy pics of Z/28 mules at the 'ring yet though.....
This could warrant another whole thread, but in the Car and Driver I picked up today they had a shootout of best handling car for under $100,000... Z06 with Z07 package was second to last only beating the Golf GTI... It did however have the fastest lap around their racecourse, besting the next car at the track (GTR) by half a second per lap. Interestingly enough, the GTR only finished one place about the Z06. I haven't sat in a new Camaro, but one of the huge complaints about the Vette were how the seats weren't nearly up to the task in a car that had such a huge amount of grip (pulled 1.07g on their skidpad). Hopefully the supermaro can get some nice racing style seats.

Any chance they may have packaged a Z28 in CTS-V Coupe clothes for track testing to throw off the hounds, as the basic appearance was well known.

I don't think the dimensions underneath the body are compatible in such a way that such a thing could be done without it being an obvious hack, like the spy shots we've seen of the CTS body on the ATS.

that wouldnt make any sense. not the same platform. theyd be better off using an old g8 as the z28 test mule which may have been done. but this stuff only test the power train and suspension. but with every thing under the real car, is the only way to tell how it will actually do on the track. running the the same tires/wheels, suspension, transmission, motor and body is the only way to see how it will actually do.

I don't know what the purpose of that would be. It's not like they have any reason to keep it secret.

Random thought. They hung 4th gen body panels on a Y-body for C5 testing.

It would probably be easier to just swap powerplants in the VE Commodore 2-door mules they used previously for the 2010 Camaro.

I would venture out and say that the 2 cars will probably be pretty close in performance numbers. The CTS platform is probably a bit better, but then again it is a much higher cost vehicle. Even the base CTS is about $12K more than a base LS Camaro. Either way, the Z28 will be most likely be a winner when it comes to performance!

Sure, but that was before the C5 was intro'd. No secret as far as what the 5th gen looks like.
