note to self: 1.don't believe everything you read in print from so called "respectable sources"
2. Take down picture of jesus in room, replace with picture of Scott Settlemire

In 6 months I expect GM to give the official 'go'. So maybe 24, 30, or maybe more, months from there.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this:
including a proposed rear-drive replacement for the Chevy Impala sedan, said to be inspired by the classic 1965-'67 Impala series.

Expect the car to be in production 18 to 24 months after that (Anywhere between Fall '07 & Spring '08).
There are people who are all but knocking us beside the head with hints. Not just FBodfather, but also Lutz, Welburn, and even Chevy's general manager. To be honest, as a whole, these are the most blantant hints I've seen since I started doing this automotive behind the scenes "hobby".
Edmunds is way off if they think it's going to be a 2010MY car.
And, yes. Engine choices have been set already.
To all, take these 3 items for what it's worth:
1. The Chevy Cobalt took less than 18 months.
2. Camaro is farther along than you probally think it is.
3. Camaro's time to production is going to be unusally streamlined.
Don't go by "informed sources in the supplier community", don't go by "engineers familiar with development timelines". Go by the people actually working on the thing, and those actually monitoring the progress.
If the source isn't Lutz, Welburn, someone within the Chevrolet Motor Division, or someone in GM or Holden who directly has a hand in the car, or someone involved with the factory where it's going to be made, my advice is to take what ever they say with a grain of salt.
Remember I said this.

Now this is close to what I thought would be available. Since we know that THIS is not right. Anybody care to guess what actually is? Hints welcome from ppl in the know...

Things to be decided:
1) Which base V6?
2) Will there be an entry level V8? (alot here depends on the final decision on question #1).
3) Which top engine above the standard "performance" V8?

Now I would not be against throwing some older styling cues in the mix to make it look more like a big american sedan and less pedestrian...
But there is still no reason, with GMs capacity and chevys history they can't pull a storied name out and create a direct competitor for the 300, if thats what they want to do. And I'm sure they do.

I'm not in the know but I'm guessing 3.9, LS2, LS3.
I'm still with Jason E that it is a mistake not to have a modestly powered smaller displacement V8 in the lineup.
