[QUOTE=Chewbacca]Huh?

The video states a 9 inch INCREASE to the wheelbase with an approximate equal reduction in overall length.

My apologies, That's what I get for posting during the time I'm usually sleeping. I re-read my post and even I can't figure out WTF I was thinking there

I am aware that the Camaro is a pony car. What I was trying to get at was the fact that GM is looking to bring more people to the Camaro brand. It just suprised me a bit to see that they are sticking with cramped interiors and trunk space of the second generation.

As far as what my needs are, the new Camaro would fit the bill for me once again. At this time it's just the wife and I and when kids do come into play I already own an urban assault vehicle. I've owned a number of Camaros over the years ... 2 1st gens, a handful of 2nd gens and a few other 3rds. I've generally been happy with all of them although I've been more willing to sink money into my two wrecks (see sig) than I have a new model. Outside of thier performance the 4th gen cars never really appealed to me but I'm pleased to say that if this 5th gen see's production, I'm game.

Re: a Finished 5th Gen....???

wow so i go get my car checked out for a blown head gasket and found out it doesnt have one.. post the picture go back to sleep and wake up and its already 5 pages long and on the front of the site

Over all i like it. I think they did a good job but im sure they will change a little bit of it by the time it hits production...3 years away... .

I really don't think they could have gone with pulling lines from the 4th or 3rd gens really since even those designed werent enough to out sell the Mustang. What they needed was a brand new design (but still looked like a camaro) that would have more of a chance against the mustang.

Perhaps you should try being a little more open minded. CSi.com are not ricers, they're enthusiasts. They hate wings and fart-cans and crap like that as much as anyone else. The only difference is that their enthusiasm is directed at a different type of car. And when you think about it, subcompacts like the Civic are the spiritual successors of the 60s pony cars anyway: both were among the smallest, lightest, and cheapest cars that had the most tuning potential available to young buyers. GM just happened to lose touch with this buyer over the years so that demographic went elsewhere.

And we should all give a damn about what other car boards think. Same as when the clay pics were leaked, the only boards that seemed to like it were the GM boards. Almost every other board disliked it. That is a very bad sign. It's one thing to design a car that your most fervent supporters will accept, but it's quite another to appeal to a broader audience. And as I said before, this is where the Camaro is going to fail. Once all the dyed-in-the-wool GM fans get theirs in the first couple of years, sales are going to tank. The car does not have broad enough appeal to sustain itself. Marketing primarily to GM's existing customer base (27% market share and falling rapidly) is not the way for GM to reverse its slide, and that's exactly where's they've aimed this retro Camaro.

This is a board of people who are car enthusiasts, not Camaro loyal owners. None of the responses are too great. When the pics were leaked a few weeks ago, many more of them liked that car in the hopes it would be tweaked for the better. Looks like it was tweaked and became worse.
Is GM really supposed to cater to 3 unhappy Civic owners?

Just so everyone knows there are literally about 2 people on the portion of ClubSi that I linked to that actually own a Civic. Everyone in "Si vs All" owns every other imaginable performance/sports car.

Re: a Finished 5th Gen....???

The video mentions it will be based on the Zeta platform... but then goes on to say the same as the current GTO (which is incorrect). Wheelbase of 110" and o/a length of 180". It also makes mention of a 2008 production date (as a 2009 model).

I think it looks good. Very aggressive! It would definitely say "get outta my way" if ever cought behind a Mustang.

For those doomsdayers continuing their negativity regarding the styling direction of the car... that's fine, we all have opinions. Me, I like, and that's just my opinion. And I don't consider myself a redneck even though I come from downunder.

Fabulous. Just amazing. GM nailed it.

Although I will say the interior doesn't do much for me. Don't hate it, don't love...it's ok.

Still man, that thread is less than a full page long, and there are about 3 positive comments and 3 negative ones. Compare that to the threads we've had here about the Challenger, and the Mustang when it came out; count the "fugly" comments and compare them to the positive ones. Automotive sites like these and ours are highly biased.
