Unhappy First official Camaro recall announced :( Battery cable issue...

recall announced (FILE ATTACHED)

Some kind of starter shorting problem because of the battery cable being exposed. Looks like the car is having some early teething problems

To be expected I guess with the first bunch of a first year production but glad GM is aknowledging the issue and getting it fixed asap.

wow..... thats the best wording they could come up with?

The temporary fix will entail wrapping the battery positive starter cable with protective insulating tape

they are going to reroute the wire instead of taping them up now

Well it's an internal bulletin to provide instructions to dealerships and not a marketing piece for the public afterall

to be fair.... I worked at chrystler and GM dealers..... I mean this is not too big of a deal.

At least is not a real serious safety issue...like all the chrystlers where the steering wheels were splitting in half....or the bolts for the lift support breaking off on the mini vans or something...... Or bolts for the seats breaking off.


Not sure why all these minor things are getting so much attention...b/c people waited so long and expect more? B/c GM is going downhill, and people are using this as proof? I don't know

I'm just glad to see they are recognizing a problem, and implementing a correction. Recalls are common and are bound to happen on a new vehicle.

Yeah potential engine compartement fires and complete loss of vehicle power.
No biggie

Uh, should stuff like this NOT have been caught for the YEARS they were testing these vehicles. Just sayin'

There will be more, I'd bet anything. There's always problems with the first year of a new model, especially with GM. It takes 2-3 years to work out the bugs.

Come on people, please stop blowing this out of proportion. It's a recall, it's really not that big of a deal. The good news is that they are catching these things now before they deliver the cars in large amounts. At least they are informing people as to why it might be taking a little longer to get their car. Isn't that why they were doing such long quality assurance tests.

I worked at a Nissan (not by choice, it was a job) dealer for three years, and every single model that Nissan had, had a recall on it at one point or another. It happens all of the time. In fact, I'm even eilling to bet that there is not a single car out there that hsan't had a recall on it. And before people start posting on here; Well, I owned this car and it never had a recall---well I'm sure it did and you just didn't know about it, or it was on the model a year or two before the one you own and it has been corrected on yours.

Am I getting this right (I haven't read the details) but, based on one incident, GM is recalling something to make sure it doesn't become commonplace? Usually, doesn't it take MANY more "incidents" to warrant a recall? If this is the case, sounds pretty proactive to me.

It would cost less to address it now than wait to see if it happens on more cars and have it fixed at dealerships. It's also better for PR to do it now.

I'm always curious to know what kind of "speech" the employee received when management found out that he was the one responsible for the faulty cable, his reply was probably along the lines of "Well, you know, i was, supposed to put it there, and then i was distracted and then i forgot about it and then the supplier didn't bring the right cables and then and then"

I'm glad i'm not him !

Yeah if this had been months or a year down the road it would for sure be a big deal but luckily they caught it early. I just remember how much bad press the Focus got for all of its recalls. While its problems were much more significant, it also got a lot more bad press because there were so many on the road.

Even though it got caught early it does seem like something that should have been noticed in the extensive testing they do on the car. I mean they fed us the line for years that the Camaro release was taking so long because it was so important that they wanted to get it right.
