Stuff like this is the very reason I'm not an early adopter of anything. Vehicles, electronics, nothing....

Agreed. I try to stay a small step behind the rush. Let them test it, break it, find the problem, etc... Then I swoop in like batman and buy the perfected product

Got mine fixed up today.
Took almost 2 hours but it was done right.
The mechanic said the motor mount was actually starting to wear on the wire.

This has the potential to cause a lot of issues for people who don't hear about the recall.

Angry Not the Proper Resolution

MAN!!!! TAPING as a mean of repairing so that the vibration does not wear on the wiring harness? Filing the sharp edge out of the motor mount?

The wording of that PDF repair is out right informal and not technical in the least!!!!

Camaro owners, that repair is a disgrace!!!!!!

For one, tape does not last forever......... and using the tape as padding is not a real fix.

There are so many other proper resolution to this electrical shortage.... and taping it up should not be one of them!!!!!!!

The repair also calls for washers that move the cable further from the terminal, and a 4mm minimum gap setting. Seems fine to me.

I saw what they did, it will be fine now.
The extra nut and washers is good enough to keep the wire away from the starter.
They rerouted the wire, ground down the edge on the motor mount and put that butyl rubber patch over it. They also put the tape on the wire where they were suppose to.
I don't think there will be any further problem.
I'll have them look at it during the first couple of oil changes.
My club also has a Mod Day coming up.
I'll put the Camaro up on a lift then and take a look again.

We had John Fitzpatrick in the studio for the recently released CamaroZ28.Com Podcast 192. If you didn't listen to it, you may want to since John talked quite a bit about this situation.

bkwagonss: Can you get some pics of the fix so people can see what it looks like.

I will have to listen to the podcast for more info (can't since I'm at work now). But you would certainly THINK this would get noticed during testing, no? Especially because it happened the very same day it was picked up by a customer - we're not talking long term durability issues here.

It has to be on a lift to see everything.
Hopefully in early June I will have it on a lift at our Mod Day.
I'll take a ton of pictures then.
I should have another 400 or 500 miles on it by then too.
So I'll see if there are any further problems.

I did the first recall last week for this. The tape and filing is really just a backup in case someone doing the recall doesn't do it right IMO. With the 2 washers and nut spacing away the cable off the starter, I was able to get about 1/4" of clearance from cable-to-starter, and 1/2" between cable-to-motor mount. The cable has enough tension and has enough rigidity to it that after I reinstalled it and repositioned it, it cannot even reach the starter or mount.

Our Mod Day is scheduled for June 14th.
I will put the car on the lift then and take pictures underneith.
Does anyone want specific pictures of anything under there.
(rear axles maybe?)
There's a possibility I will also be putting the car on a dyno.
They need at least 6 guys that want to dyno their cars for the dyno guy to show up. Plus I'm waiting to find out how much it costs.
I could probably get a nice cover for the car with what a dyno costs.

Look, this is such an insignificant problem,if you don't want to take the hour or so to repair it better, when it fails again or looks like it is coming undone take it to the dealer and have it fixed again. I mean come on,it's a freakin battery cable.
