If I remember correctly they’re not going to be coming off the assembly line for pubic sales until February 16, 2009. Furthermore, you are not going to see them in the show room to the end of March or early April probably around the same that the G8 was release earlier this year. So calling a 2010 model is not anything out of the Norm.

Actually, February 16th is the actual on sale date for the Camaro.

I don't have the actual regular production start date, but it should be before well the holidays if GM is serious about not having the type of shortages that insure dealer scalping.

As everyone has seen, production has technically started already, though I don't believe anything made the next couple of months are sellable.

On a related note:

The current 2009 Mustang production started the day after Memorial Day.

Last day of the current edition Mustang production is scheduled for January 30, 2009. Production should start on the new one 30 to 60 days afterwards.

The new 2010 Mustang will debut at the Los Angeles International Auto Show this November. Camaro at Indianapolis this September.

If you are up for a non-SRT Challenger, you can order them now. Production starts in June.

They're in there . I don't know if we'll actually be able to see anything through the fence though?! But I've spoken to a couple people who work in/around the plant, and a couple prototypes have been inside since before Christmas! (yes, since Dec. 2007 ). I found this out while having Christmas dinner!

So for at least ~5 - 6 months already, there have been new Camaros just blocks away from where we live, and I haven't even seen ONE yet?!

Had to drive all the way to Detroit to see the first one ..... typical, eh?!
