Forget Z/28 vs. SS...Here's an alternative lineup idea
#16
Honestly though, I don't think 400 HP is too much to expect for a base V8 in this car. Its not a small number by any means, but I think its right on par with the Camaro project as a whole.

Whatever the Title
Whatever may be the package option, it doesn't matter for people would not be able to tell between the V8 and V6s.... They can't even tell between the 4th generation Trans Am and Camaros. In this sense, I'm sure you have problem telling between the Formulas and Firebirds or the Trans Am and Firehawks.

Well, it doesn't really matter what they are called.... but I, myself like this line up:
Base - V6
RS - Small V8 with nice spoiler and maybe some handling from the Z28
Z28 - The good V8
SS - Handling Package for the Z28 with hood, spoiler, bigger wheels
ZL1 - Top Dog, "take no prisoners" type of Camaro.
This is of course only my way of seening it... that is realistic.

And, you're right - it's not an unreasonable expectation...but "400 or bust" is a dangerous approach to take. Because I could see a 380hp IRS Camaro being pretty darn impressive
But, I digress, I've given up really speculating as to engines after Scott said that. I'm just gonna trust that the Team knows best.

Did I say there was? No what I said was ALL V8'S WERE Z28'S And the SS was a step above that. This of course with the knowledge that there were NO 3rd gen SS's. And the Z28 was also called an IROC Z until 1990. Then in 1991 IROC was dropped and Z28 was top dog. Until the SS was brought back in the 4th gen as the top dog. But the V8's were ALL Z28's.

Oh, I almost forgot - you'll need NAAAAWWWSSS. Two bottles. The big ones.

Bottom line, if I can afford the top engine, I won't care too much about the moniker. I have a Z28 already

I would think GM will cash in on all of the historical names, not IROC, but I could see RS, SS, Z28 (Z/28) and ZL1.
I can't see GM not using the LS3 for the Camaro. It's in the base Vette and optional in the G8. It's the stock block tried and true SBC for this date. It's free power over the L76 and is no heavier nor expensive to put in the car. Not to mention certification of engines and trans combos must be done with the EPA and look no further than the C6 for that.
