to answer my own thread....

gss9909: is the slit on the ss functional?

JohnFitzpatrick: No, the slit is for appearance only.

What was the justification that it couldn't be functional?

theres no space to get ducting to the throttle body from the fascia.

you'd have to bring air in from the hood.

LAME is right!

The RS without the stupid slit looks light years better.

Please tell me you can get the SS without the worthless slit!

A huge structural element is in the way.

I think that's just an "enhanced" photo.

P.S. Look at the chassis photo above. What purpose would they serve?

I don't know. But when you go on the web to look at the colors, you see more than 1 of them w/ the open gills.

The "colors" are applied to a photo of the concept.

Looks like they could have tryed to duct it under and back up or around to the air box. But I guess there just wasn't enough room

Maybe somebody in the aftermarket can come up with something interesting for this.

If all else fails for these models a supercharged Z28 should have this intake open.

all that plumbing would nullify any performance gains...

shoot, even on the Firehawks and WS6 4th gens, the air inlets did squat for performance until you got up to around 90mph + .... and even then, the gains were minimal.

Cowl induction might work, but again, you deal with the problems the 4th gen SSs had. you need to move the air forward to the front of the engine bay to get it into the throttle body.

Bingo!

Not if you have an intake with the throttle body at the rear of the engine. (I doubt there's enough room between the block and the firewall, but there certainly should be more room than on a 4th gen.)
