This mentions that the president of GM Canada drove onto the stage in a '69 Camaro, and the head of the CAW drove onto the stage in a '67 Camaro. Awesome intro!

I was kinda hoping the new Camaro would be built here in the U.S.

Same. But Oshawa is a great plant, and atleast it's getting built.
I could have only hoped for them to start back producing them in Norwood so I could take a 5 minute drive to see them get assembled. Never thought it was realistic, but a nice dream anyways.

A short story about how Oshawa was awarded the Camaro.

Great news. I can say I was happy with my 2002, so coming out of the best quality plant in the western hemisphere should bring good things. Just a quick econ rule, remember the country of ownership origin is where al lthe profits go. Toyota and Honda can build tons of plants here, but the profits go back to Japan. The same with GM and as far as an import we should try to stay positive about the Canada US alliance. It's been pretty good to us thus far.

Anyone read the comments page with that story? Nice to see the Canadians giving the car and the jobs, such a warm welcome http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...tory/Business/

Re: GM Canada press release - It's Oshawa

Just a side note, I am giddy that they are bringing back the Camaro, didn't really care where it was being built, as long as it was in North America but yesterday I could not get enough of watching the news and waiting for the Camaro segment and being that I live just down the 401 from Oshawa it was on all the news channels here. And where I work the cafeteria faces the 401 and its going to be a pleasure watching the car carriers full of Camaros going to the States. Right now we see these carriers full of Chargers, Magnums and 300s and pretty soon Challengers. I just can't wait to start picking and choosing all the available options the Camaro will have, a must for me will be black leather, t-tops, 6 speed manual and of course a V8 with hopefully 4:10 or 3:73 but I doubt they will offer that, most likely a 3:56

Just food for thought.

Summary:
blah blah blah Fuel Mileage blah blah Gas Guzzler blah blah blah
Seriously, if I pull any more of my hair out with these misconceptions you might as well take my scalp too. The media keeps feeding people "the sky is falling" stories about gas prices and sure as sh*t people buy them hook, line and sinker. Does anyone research before they speak anymore?

That does it, if they really don't want the car, bring it to Delaware. It's an American pony car anyway.

Re: GM Canada press release - It's Oshawa

That is sadly how a lot of people view musclecars nowadays.

Anyway, the Globe is a liberal lapdog newspaper. The editors read all of the comments before allowing your post to go up, so it's possibly editorial interferance on this one.

There are plenty of Canadians who fully support this! Of course, most of us read more friendly newspapers like The Star, and The Sun.

I hear ya. I've had to explain to so many people recently that a car like Camaro does not get horrible gas mileage. Minivans and SUVs do far worse. It's not the size of the engine that is the main factor in fuel usage; it's weight, aerodynamics, friction, etc. But people still think it's the 1960s with sloppy old carburetors and poor combustion control.

As to the comments on that website, it's embarassing that people with such narrow, uneducated viewpoints are given a worldwide forum to showcase their ignorance. FWIW you'd probably get the same type of comments had the announcement been in Delaware, although maybe not quite as vocal given the preponderance of leftist tree huggers up here.
