GM Car Plant Schedules Extra Shifts
#17
This was a nice Headline to wake up to today. I listen to the radio a lot during the day. I try to stay away from the business stations but, often fall victim. The Camaro is mentioned a lot. It's nice to see (or hear) the exceitment. Everyone involved just needs to keep their eye on quality. Some may be comming back to a GM product for the first time in many years. THEY can't afford to blow it. I'm sure that is well known.

Not sure if this is good news or not. They will still have plenty of time to get them out to dealers before the 2011 model starts, why don't they just pace themselves? It won't do them any good to have a ton of leftover 2010 models on lots when the 2011 models are rolling out, or have to take time out in the 4Q when you're trying to make your year end numbers because you've already worked the overtime.

The plant will also run during the first week of summer shutdown effectively canceling your vacation plans if you had any. Ist time I've seeen them do this in 20 years!!!
Generally, people aren't too happy with any of this. Keep in mind that the average age of these workers is around 55 and that most of the jobs on the flex line are TERRIBLE.

Chrysler doesn't have the demand for their vehicles so that's the biggest reason why they're down. Many GM plants are shutdown till july, it all depends on market demand.
Bankruptcy at GM is very likely but you'd think that if they're 19,000 units behind, they won't be doing themselves and their customers any favor by shutting down.
Do you have any idea how long it takes to catch up 19,000 units?

Even still, I'd rather deal with the "problem" of too much work right now, as opposed to not enough.
