GM: Help keep new Camaro price down, make Onstar an option
instead of ramming it down our throats as standard equipment. Its about a $1000 option on the 3500 series Silverados I have been buying and I choose not to have it.

Google maps has some excellent maps online that you can get directions from. Haven't gotten lost yet. If I do get lost, I have no problems asking people.
I don't want a goofy looking antenna on my Camaro.
If the car breaks down (and why should a brand new camaro break down?) I have free towing through my insurance company.
I've been driving for 10+ years and haven't had a need for "on-star" yet.
It's available free for a year right? So what am I going to do with it after the first year? I'm not going to pay monthly to keep it activated...
I don't understand the modern day rush to fill all of the new cars and trucks with as many electronic goodies as possible. I can see the need for SUV's, vans, etc to have DVD's and such in the back, but in a camaro?
Give me horsepower, six gears I can choose from, a good stereo, a car that looks like the concept, and you've got my money GM. Feel free to leave all the expensive electronic **** out that I don't need

I have never been a fan of On-Star either. I think they belong in the Caddys and Buicks if anything.
One question I have always wondered is... say you are in a horrific wreck or something. If you push the button will the On-Star person pretty much tell you that you are SOL because you don't have a subscription, or make you agree to a subscription before calling the ambulance?

^ I think that once you don't pay, it doesn't work anymore? Two guys at work have Tahoes with onstar they bought used and they never paid to have it turned back on. If you push the button, nothing happens.
What is FTW short for? I know a lot of 'em, but I can't think of what that one is?
Don't get me wrong, I think On-Star is some AWESOME technology, and it's something GM NEEDS to maintain a competetive edge (I'm sure on-star has swayed a few buyers into a GM car.) I just don't feel that the cost and the system should be forced upon the buyer (but in all reality, the cost is most likely spread across the entire GM line, whether the vehicle has onstar or not.) Personally I don't need it, nor do I have an interest in it.
I do have an XM subscribtion and XM, to me, is awesome. So I'd be fine with GM offering that as an option (most radios now-a-days are sold either XM or Sirius "ready" anyway.) Considering XM and Sirius are merging, there will probably be even more cool stuff to listen to.

The 07 Grand Prix I leased has Onstar and a lady called me on the Onstar phone in the car and wanted my credit card number. I refused and asked why and found out she was trying to sell me minutes on the Onstar phone. I have a cell phone with me at all times and dont need an additional car phone. I also use MapQuest for directions and dont need to be told when to change my oil. All new GM vehicles come with free roadside assistance also. I have been driving 37 years without it and do not want to pay for something I dont want. Not only am I not going to renew my Onstar sevice on the GP, I would like to get a credit for not using the first free year. If GM wants to make the new Camaro affordable to the masses, and sell 100,000 or more units annually, keep Onstar an option.

I agree that Onstar should be an option.
I like what it offers, especially the hands free phone and minutes that are good all over North America. Since the 5th gen will be our "travelling" car, I would possibly even consider paying the $25 a month to keep it active.
What I would really like to see is a "family plan" where we'd pay for one full subscription, and get activation at a dramatically reduced price for the rest of the vehicles in our personal "fleet".
