GM Hints Chevy Camaro Could Catch Ford Mustang V-6's Horsepower Rating for 2011
#31
I really really wish Chevy wouldn't go to battle (read: spend any money) with Ford over V6 horsepower. I know it's more exciting when we are talking 304 and 305 compared to the old days of 200 versus whatever the Mustang had in, say, 2000.
I would like to see the fuel economy be taken to study though.

i know it wasnt rear wheel power. but the way they did that test made it look like it was. putting it on a dyno and saying, "well the v6 didnt get 305 like advertised, its 308!" whats the point of doing a dyno run when your going to use the flywheel hp anyways? they might as well have said the rwhp. not alot of magazines or shows, like to use real rwhp numbers. those are the ones that really matter

It is a sales and marketing thing. If two cars by two different companies have the exact same power, and one company advertise theirs at rear wheel and one company advertises flywheel, which would the average consumer think was better? The one advertised at flywheel because it is higher, even though both numbers are "accurate".

Personally I'm expecting that the 2011 V6 Camaro will be rated at 310hp - likely due to a slightly less restrictive exhaust system.
But then bumping up the HP is the easy part. Matching the Performance & Fuel economy numbers will be harder. But the best way to do both is - to do some serious weight reduction (say 200 lbs).
