Cool GM reportedly mentions Z28 and Camaro changes

The last week or so, the Z28 rumor mill has started to churn again. A reported GM employee by the name of Karl Stracke, GM’s Vice President of Global Vehicle Engineering, gave out some hints while visiting Motor Trend last week. While none of the reports mention any specifics, such as suspension or chasis improvement - or even HP numbers, the Z28 buzz is back on.

There must be a reason why GM is recalling the Disciples this summer to come back to Detroit. Will there be a Z28 showing? Hmmmmm....

I'm partially waiting on purchasing a 5th gen because I want to see the "finished" convertible, but also because I'm curious as to not only what a "Z/28" will include, but how much it will cost.

If the Disciples do get a peek and if drivetrain is still "on the table" I have one world for you guys to repeat to GM for me... "LS7"

I certainly wouldn't turn down an LSA-powered Camaro, but I would LOVE an LS7. That engine is just amazing.

The LS7 (and the LS9) are hand-built, low-production engines, so that really isn't feasible for Camaro.

Having said that, I'd be perfectly happy with a mass-produced engine that uses the same hardware as an LS7.

maybe they should make the ls7 mass produced instead of hand built.

Perhaps they could call the Camaro version LSZ.

A detuned LS7 that doesn't use the Titanium bits and only turns 6600RPM like the LS3 would be perfect for the heavy Camaro and even the next Silverado SS!

I don't think that would be a good idea, unless it can be done without sacrificing anything about the engine, or if we're giving Z06 something even better.

LS7 block and crank with cast pistons and pm rods
Keep the CNC heads if possible. Wet sump oiling.
Call it and LS8 or LS5. Advertise it at 475 HP.
That would be nice and all.
But I would still prefer a blower on the Z28.

I would be disappointed with only 475 hp when you consider that the stock LS3 will make 480 hp with a cam swap.

That said, if the Z28 is going to be as exclusive as the Z06, I don't see why you couldn't use the hand-built LS7.

475HP would be underrated just Im sure. But just think what it could do with a cam swap as well.

Your right about it being exclusive though, Im sure it wont be cheap, so Im all for a hand-built motor.
