I know in the past GM has built show cars and one offs from used F-bodies. I believe there was a yellow LS6 powered Collector's Edition Formula that I read about in a article which was built off a used Firebird that GM bought from a dealership in Texas. The envelope that the letter came in is post marked from zip code 34677, which is in Florida.
I hate to fan the still smoldering Firebird rebirth rumors, but this maybe significant. Perhaps GM is trying to gauge former Firebird owners, or maybe they're using them to underpin test cars? Sort of like the C5 Cormaros.
guionM, Z284ever, etc, any ideas? Or is this just a cleverly disguised dealership gimmick. It's a shame I don't still have my T/A. I wonder what kind of deal they'd be willing to give me on a new GTO.

When I had my Caprice LT1, every few months I would get a postcard in the mail from this export company in Texas wanting used Caprices. They said they would pay top dollar for LT1s. They exported to the Middle East and B-Bodies were a hot commodity over there in the late 90s before they got there own special Caprice in 2000. I guess thats why you don't see too many Caprices anymore, they have been exported to the Middle East.

I would be reacting the same way you have been. However, after reading what some of these other people have said, they're probably right. Just another ploy. Sure would be NICE, though, if it were a step in bringing back the Firebird. Probably not going to happen, though.

My dad is in the car business, and he has sold several Caprices to the Middle East through Ebay. Lots of demand for the B-bodies there.

its a dealer ploy to get you to the dealer... i see lots of dealerships do that...
they are trying to get you to start thinking about a new vehicle... and to trade your current one in...
do what you want, but dont let it affect your opinion...
